As we ended last week, Marie had decided she needed to permanently leave the marriage, to divorce her husband, not just pack up the kids and leave temporarily when he was being abusive, waiting for him to cool down. She began making plans and at first, it seemed as if it was going to be a successful exit, but complications lay ahead.
