This is a bonus episode where I highlight a meeting I co-lead once a month with a group of leaders in Austin, TX.

This short teaching piece is from the Emergent Leader Initiative where we work with leaders who are building something and creating economic value. Using the Builder Profile curriculum from Gallup, we are trying to help change the national dialogue from “What do you do? (The question almost everyone asks a person they’ve never met before) to “What are you building?” That question elicits a very different response.

This is my 2nd year of partnering with Jeff Johnson with Austin Bridge Builders Alliance whose mission is connecting people with purpose and is sponsoring the Emergent Leader Initiative.

In tonight’s session I led a conversation around two important tools that support the Builder Profile 10 assessment which helps builders understand their top talents and how to leverage them. The tools covered in this session are the Personal Board of Directors tool and the Purpose Journal.

Tonight’s conversation covering the Personal Board of Directors Tool was all about surrounding yourself with people you trust that will speak truth into your life and support you as you begin to create something. Your personal board is made up of a coach, mentor, expert, complementary partner, role mode, and a person with shared interests.

The Purpose Journal part of the conversation was about seeing the links between your Top 4 Talents, the positive experiences you have, plans for the future, and provides a historical record of what you are connecting with as you are building your new venture.

This is a super fun group and it was a super fun conversation! I thought it would be fun to shake it up a bit and share something outside of the normal podcast I do each week.
