Just started listening to you guys. Love it. Denomination-ism is a grid put on top of a phenomenon-- it wasn't deliberate. I'd say the east-west Christendom was a mutually adversarial break rather than orthodoxy leaving Rome. I like the terms "magisterial reform" for Calvin, Luther, Zwingli, Cranmer, and "radical reform" for anabaptists, etc. I think the Hussite movement is better to start with rather than Luther. I like to compare denominations to various religious orders in the Roman church-- Dominicans, Franciscans, etc., as well as various rites that disappeared under Gregory the Great's homogeneous reforms, with different squabbles and rites. I grew up evangelical-nondenominational and am now episcopal. Some Lutherans in the USA are very low church-- eg Missori and Wisconsin synod. I like the question about music and publishing houses. I'd say nondenominational and evangelical/baptist bodies use publishing houses like Moody or Zondervan, while mainline use their own, like APA. I recommend D Mucclouch, history of Christianity: first 3k years (penguin publishing) and C Eire's reformations, early modern world 1450-1650 (Yale publishing). Keep it up!
