CSKA Moscow 2 Arsenal 2: Gunners survive a scare to reach Europa League semi-finals

Arsenal edged into the Europa League semi-finals despite an unconvincing 2-2 draw at CSKA Moscow.

A 4-1 advantage from last week's first leg at the Emirates was just enough for the Gunners but goals from Fedor Chalov and Kirill Nababkin meant that Arsenal endured far more difficulty than expected in reaching the semi-finals of a European competition for the first time since 2009.

Only when Danny Welbeck curled a superb shot past Igor Akinfeev with 15 minutes left could the Gunners relax. Aaron Ramsey ahead a second in stoppage time.

Arsene Wenger's side held a commanding lead before kick-off and showed little inclination to build on it, instead trying to suffocate the contest with stultifying possession.
