The successful south-east corridor Youth Partnership Project recently won the “Outstanding Commitment to Collaborative Place-based services or solutions” category at the recent Community Excellence Service Awards ... presented during the WACOSS Conference. This project was described on the night as a strategic project focussed on developing a better youth early intervention model to reduce the number of young people entering the Juvenile justice system. It engages state and local government, the not-for-profit community sector and local elders in working better together to improve outcomes for young people with complex needs through a collaborative place-based approach. http://youthpartnershipproject.org.au/

  • Episode 10 - End Homelessness

    30 APR 2018 · In recent weeks there has been a huge amount of activity in progressing the efforts to address Homelessness in WA. In this episode I was fortunate to speak with some members of the Western Australian Alliance to End Homelessness. This included Sam Knight Executive Manager of Housing and Homelessness at Ruah Community Services, Michelle Mackenzie (the CEO of Shelter WA) and Katie Stubley ... who is the Alliance’s Steering Group facilitator. Firstly, there was the release of research (headed by our our very own Professor Paul Flatau) into the State of Homelessness in Australia’s cities using data collected at Registry Week’s across Australia. The Alliance then released it’s Strategy for Western Australia to End Homelessness ... Titled : - A ten year plan to END homelessness in Western Australia ... Together we can make a difference. And later in the evening on Friday April 13th, a truely unique event captured the hearts and minds of those in the PERTH CBD. There where over 1,000 performers ... comprising an orchestra; massed choir, professional and community ensembles, all moving through the streets of Perth performing Gavin Bryars' Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet. This event was led by the UWA Conservatorium of Music and co-hosted by the WA Alliance to End Homelessness and The Centre for Social Impact.
