  • Advocacy for Proper Access to Healthcare is Crucial

    28 AUG 2022 · The Diabetic Mogul is excited to declare the publication of our September episode with our renowned guest "Elizabeth Pfiester", the Founder & Executive Director of T1International. Her contribution/efforts within the world are unmatched, for she's passionately inspired/encouraged/motivated millions of people within the International Diabetes Community and beyond! Below were the key discussion points: ♧ She explained about the #insulin4all global movement & Workshop to be held on the 24th of September 2022; ♧ Liz described how she got diagnosed and how her access to diabetes care was impacted when she moved to the UK from the USA; ♧ She briefly shared what gives her the strength and motivation in her day-to-day operations as the Director of T1International (a dynamic organization run by PwD); ♧ Liz described how determined she was to create a charity organization; ♧ She discussed how she envisions access to diabetes care in the world, in the next 5 years; ♧ Considering that insulin was discovered 100 years ago, Liz shared her perspective on how it's possible that people with type 1 diabetes are still dying (when we have all these diabetes technologies and various forms of medicines); ♧ It goes without saying that access to diabetes care differs across the world and that most impacted diabetes communities are so disempowered, our guest suggested how we can all get involved, get engaged and help create the change that needs (where #insulin4all is a reality); ♧ Given the fact that people living with other types of diabetes can use insulin for their diabetes management, Liz helped to clear the grey areas on how T1International focuses on access to care for people living with diabetes; ♧ Indeed, our giant T1international is growing and expanding, our guest explained how people out there can get involved and become part of the global movement of #insulin4all and other initiatives yet to come; ♧ Lastly, Liz delivered her words of advice to “The Diabetic Mogul Podcast” audience (Caregivers, People living with diabetes, and healthcare providers) A huge thanks to our legendary guest for not only agreeing to be part of this podcast but for sharing how welcoming T1International is to people willing to advocate for the global movement with other voices!   • The Status Quo of Diabetes Care within the High Income Countries

    31 JUL 2022 · It was a huge privilege to host a panelist with dynamic voices, within the International Diabetes Community Advocate Caro Pudmensky and Advocate Susanne Thiemann. These are both #dedoc°voices!; part of the “Open Source Looper Community; extraordinary Bloggers and their love/passion for the community is unmatched. Below are the key points of discussion: ♧ What Caro & Susanne wished they knew (at the time of your diagnosis); ♧ They described the Status Quo of Diabetes Care in Germany; ♧ Further, both shared one thing the entire world could emulate from Germany's healthcare system; ♧ Additionally, they briefly shared the meaning of #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs; ♧ Advocate Caro & Susanne described how the involvement with #dedoc°voices has impacted their advocacy; ♧ They both encouraged that if we could urgently advocate for one thing, as the international diabetes community for a quick change, #insulin4all would be the call for action; ♧ Caro described her role in the "open source looper community"; ♧ Whereas, Susanne shared what she benefits from the "open source looper community"; ♧ They gave their perspectives on whether the World is safe or not, with regards to the status quo of healthcare, considering how the pandemic took the universe by surprise; ♧ Moreover, they described how the entire diabetes community (including PWD, Caregivers, and HCP) get involved and come up together to create the change that this world direly needs; ♧ Lastly, they gave shared their words of advice with the audience. Always a pleasure to host people that complement each other, indeed this was a great panelist! A huge thanks to these voices, we’re challenged to keep doing what we do best! The Diabetic Mogul hosted one of the dynamic voice within the Diabetes Community, Advocate Lejla Druskic (Nurse| Diabetes Educator| Project Coordinator| Global Advocate| YLD) The below were our points of discussion: ♧ Lejla explained how you she got diagnosed; ♧ She shared how much diabetes affected her lifestyle (childhood/career); ♧ Further described the status quo of diabetes care in Bosnia (in terms of access/affordability to insulin & diabetes technology); ♧ How her involvement in T1International; YLD program; & #dedoc°voices program assisted in her advocacy; ♧ She described how other people living with diabetes can become part of these programs; ♧ She shared her lowest & highest points with diabetes; ♧ Lejla articulated what she could change within her community, with regards to diabetes care; ♧ Lastly, she delivered her words of advice to the audience, particlarly the Low-Middle Income Countries.   • Learn from an Expert in Diabetes Care

    23 JUN 2022 · It was a great honor to host Prof. Partha Kar, on this exclusive podcast. He’s everywhere doing everything and without a doubt, his reputation precedes him (Consultant Endocrinologist| Co-Lead in Diabetes Initiatives| National Specialty Advisor). Key points of discussion: The status quo of diabetes care in the UK; Professor described his career path and what made him want to work in diabetes medicine; Speaking about inequality in healthcare, he spoke about who he sees as the most disempowered communities; He suggested what should be done to reach out so that the care of those disempowered communities can be improved; How can people living with diabetes support others who don’t want to attend clinics or who feel that they are going to be criticized by clinicians for their diabetes management; He shared what he could change about diabetes care if he could change one thing; With regards to the contribution of NHS within the diabetes community, he shed more light on the “Get It Right First Time” initiative (in terms of its role and can a non-citizen benefit?); How can the Low-Middle income communities get the diabetes technology available to them, such as those in the developed communities; He provided guidance on why it is, that there are clinical recommendations that suggest all diagnostic criteria for all types of diabetes to be based on laboratory measurements, whereas most communities conduct diabetes outreaches using only finger pricks; How can schools uphold the student’s right to safely attend school, while enabling the student to experience equal opportunities and obtain equal education, and participate equally in activities with peers; Finally, he gave his words of advice to the audience (caregivers, patients, and significant others). A huge thanks to Prof. Partha Kar for agreeing to be our guest. This session was extremely amazing, in that our guest is a powerful #dedoc voice that should be reckoned with and given an ear/attention to! Key Points of discussion: She described how she got diagnosed; How diabetes affected her life; Described the status quo of access to diabetes care in South Korea; What she had to do to keep on pursuing her passion for Taekwondo; What she did to overcome certain obstacles (misconceptions over what people with diabetes can and cannot do); Her secret to success in her Taekwondo journey (without any fear of severe hypoglycemia, for instance); From her involvement in extraordinary diabetes conferences (as a #dedoc°voice), research on diabetes and sport, and personal experience, she shared her insights and guidelines (from recommended published sources); She described the general precautions to a vigorous exercise such as Taekwondo; What diabetes taught her; Her last words to the International Diabetes Community, particularly the Korean diabetes community. Indeed, it was a huge privilege to host Jennifer Lienig, when we discussed "Diabetes & Sport". It's always encouraging and inspiring to learn from those with lived experience!
