    23 JAN 2023 · #11 - On July 18th, 1984, a 41-year-old lone gunman walked into a southern California McDonald’s fast food restaurant. But he wasn’t there to order any food. Instead, he pulled out one of three firearms he had brought with him and started shooting everyone inside the restaurant. Employees and customers all became targets. After 77 minutes, 21 people were killed, and 19 others were seriously wounded by the shooting. At the time, the massacre became the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.     9 JAN 2023 · #10 - Hundreds of young girls from Colombia, Peru, and Ecuador were kidnapped and murdered between 1969 and 1980. The murders were all linked back to Pedro Alonso Lopez. A Colombian serial killer who murdered at least 100 young girls although the number of victims could be as many as 300 girls. He targeted young girls between 9 and 12 years old.   • Pulse Nightclub

    26 DEC 2022 · #009 - On June 12th, 2016, over 300 people packed the dance floor at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida. It was Latin Night. The people inside Pulse that night came from diverse backgrounds and interests. But all came to the club expecting a fun night at a place known for its inclusive nature. Instead, the night ended in tragedy. Around 2:00 am, a gunman entered the club armed with an assault-style rifle and handgun. He opened fire within moments of entering the nightclub, killing 49 innocent people and injuring dozens more. When the massacre was over, the Pulse nightclub shooting became the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. It also became the deadliest attack on the LGBTQ community. But two days later, the bodies of the four employees were discovered. All four employees who worked the closing shift that night were brutally murdered. The mass shooting left 12 students and one teacher dead. 21 others were injured. At the time, the Columbine High School massacre was the deadliest high school shooting in U.S. history.     14 NOV 2022 · #6 - On April 15th, 2013, the day of the historic Boston Marathon, two bombs exploded near the race course. The pressure cooker bombs were constructed by two brothers who aimed to do as much damage as possible that Patriot’s Day. The bombs were detonated 12 seconds and 210 yards apart at 2:49pm.     31 OCT 2022 · #5 - On August 1, 1966, after killing his wife and mother, Charles Whitman, took several rifles to the top of the clock tower at the University of Texas at Austin. He then opened fire on everyone on the ground and in the surrounding area. Over the next 96 minutes, he killed 14 people and injured 31 others.   • Oklahoma City Bombing

    17 OCT 2022 · #004 - On April 19th, 1995, a former Army soldier named Timothy McVeigh parked a truck in front of a federal building in downtown Oklahoma City. Inside the truck was a 7,000-pound homemade bomb.At exactly 9:02 am, the bomb exploded. Within seconds, a third of the building had been reduced to rubble. And more than 300 nearby buildings were damaged.When the massacre was over, 168 people were killed, including 19 children, with several hundred more injured.     3 OCT 2022 · #003 - In less than fifteen minutes, postal worker Patrick Sherrill shot and killed 14 people and injured another six in Edmond, Oklahoma, on August 20, 1986. Following the massacre, the gunman turned the gun on himself and committed suicide.     3 OCT 2022 · #2 - On November 18, 1978, 918 people died on the Jonestown compound in Guyana. Jonestown was a remote settlement established by the Peoples Temple, a U.S.-based organization under the leadership of Jim Jones. Many people who lost their lives drank cyanide poisoning at the direction of Jones, who instructed them to commit "revolutionary suicide." That day, the events that took place became the most deadly single non-natural disaster in U.S. history until September 11, 2001.
