  • Canada - Solvero Wines - Alison Moyes

8 MAY 2023 · We’ve carefully selected Garnet Valley in Summerland, British Columbia to be our home for its unique biodiversity. A remote and unexpected place with magical beauty. Our Garnet Valley vineyard is home to seven premium clones of Pinot Noir. Each clone was carefully selected for a variety of organoleptic properties and compatibility with this narrow valley, rocky soils and extreme elevation. The diversity of these clones in the vineyard and the balanced low yield produced, translate to unmatched complexity and intensity in the finished wine. At almost 600m elevation, our Garnet Valley estate vineyard is one of the highest in BC. The elevation, steep slopes and well-draining soils define this extraordinary site. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are showcased beautifully in this rugged landscape. The demanding terrain of this place, exemplifies our steadfast dedication to the philosophy of “la lutte raisonee”, meaning the reasoned struggle. This belief is central in all of our choices in farming and winemaking and is showcased in each glass of Solvero wines.

  • Canada - Tightrope - Lindsay O'Rourke

5 APR 2023 · Tightrope Winery was born out of a recognition that balance is the ultimate goal, both in wine & in life! After growing up in Southern Ontario Graham trekked across the country and spent a few years enjoying the outdoor life that Whistler, B.C. has to offer by skiing, mountain biking, playing rugby, and meeting his future wife carving the snowy slopes and sipping fine wines. Having grown up in British Columbia Lyndsay has been aware of the fine grape growing conditions the Okanagan Valley has to offer since the onset of her own wine passion. Once the couple had their first child they decided that the environment of the Okanagan would be ideal for cultivating a family as well as their dream of a winery. Initiating a formal education on the subject of how to best cultivate the vines that produce the wines they love, they discovered that the vineyard life and winemaking were passions that they shared and wished to further pursue in their life together. The growing family relocated to New Zealand for a more advanced and thorough education on this subject that has proven to be their life-focus.Having attained honours degrees in both oenology and viticulture while studying in New Zealand at Lincoln University, Lyndsay and Graham made a welcome return to the Okanagan Valley, settling on the Naramata Bench in 2007. Since that time both have been hard at work honing their skills and practicing their trade, enabling that they can excel in their chosen profession. Lyndsay has traded in her snowboarding boots for a pair of Wellies, and was been an outstanding, award-winning winemaker for the Ruby Blues Winery along the Naramata Bench from 2009 to 2014. In 2012 and 2014 Ruby Blues won the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for their 2011 and 2013 Viognier. Lyndsay has now turned her focus to Tightrope Winery full time and continues to craft award winning wines in the new Tightrope facility! After their return to Canada, Graham went to work for Mission Hill Winery as one of their lead viticulturists. Managing numerous acres of different varietals successfully through many seasons allowed Graham to put into practice those hours of study, and he has stowed the mountain bike in the garage in favour of overalls and a tractor. 2012 saw Graham leave Mission Hill to focus on the O’Rourke’s own 10-acre property along the Naramata Bench at Fleet Road.Walking the tightrope of a life-in-balance, in her free time Lyndsay enjoys training for the triathlons that are hosted in the region, while Graham still sports his rugby cap once in a while. The Fleet Road Vineyard, in addition to the vines, is now growing not one, but two fantastic boys! A variety of family pets can also be found on the farm and are sure to be seen on the next Vineyard Dogs of the Okanagan Calendar!Lyndsay and Graham look forward to sharing with you their enthusiasm and life-long dedication to wines that are worth walking a tightrope for. Tightrope Winery is a small, family-run, sustainable winery on the Naramata Bench. A true labour of love for owners Graham (viticulturist) and Lyndsay O’Rourke (winemaker). Our vineyards on the Naramata bench Naramata Bench are farmed sustainably to make hand-crafted wines with artistry and passion. Our wines capture the soul of Naramata - the personality, character, culture and fruit of "the Bench."

  • Canada - Hester Creek Estate Winery - Mark Hopley

3 APR 2023 · At hester Creek, our roots run deep ... from the wines crafted from historic old vines that were first planted to classic varietals in 1968, to our passion in creating an atmosphere of gracious hospitality for our guests. Over fifty years ago, BC wine pioneer Joe Busnardo recognized the potential for growing vinifera grapes on a site reminiscent of the Italian hillsides of his youth. Many of those original plantings have thrived in the years since current owner Curt Garland’s stewardship investments have been made on this storied site in the vineyards and extensive new facilities with the goal of producing wines of renown from these renowned vineyards. Passionately offering our guests memorable experiences through quality wines and gracious hospitality.

  • Canada - Okanagan Crush Pad winery - Kat Dacosta

31 MAR 2023 · Haywire sprang to life when curiosity about what Switchback Vineyard would yield won out over practicality and a tiny amount of wine was made. The name was an obvious one, as what the future held was anyone’s guess. After 14 years under the umbrella of Okanagan Crush, Haywire is finally taking stage with a bold, brand new look that is hitting the market this year. A modern tasting lounge has been constructed adjacent to the crush pad and cellar that offers views of Okanagan Lake and Switchback Organic Vineyard. Visitors will be able to relax year-round and enjoy our wine together. Concrete tanks are the perfect vessel for the style of wine we aim to make. The central Okanagan area is the ideal place for cool climate varieties such as pinot noir, gamay, pinot gris and chardonnay. We don’t rush the winemaking process using low intervention methods to create fruit-forward wines with a fuller textured mid-palate and a finish that goes on and on.

  • Canada - Blasted Church Vineyards - Even Saunders

29 MAR 2023 · On a cool spring morning in 1929, a small crew from Okanagan Falls set off to a deserted mining camp some 16 miles away from home. Their mission: to dismantle an old wooden church and bring it back to Okanagan Falls. See, they’d tried taking it apart but the rusty square nails damaged the building as they were removed. So Harley Hatfield came up with the plan of blowing up four dynamite sticks inside the church to “loosen the nails”. The dynamite was hung from the rafters and the congregation watched with trepidation. There was a large blast and much to everyone’s surprise (except for maybe Mr. Hatfield’s) the plan worked! The steeple was destroyed but the rest of the church survived. Nails were loosened, and it was able to be transported and rebuilt in Okanagan Falls. The steeple was rebuilt, and the church is still active in the OK Falls community with service every Sunday. They have a sign proudly displayed on the front lawn that this is the “blasted church”. We take our name, and inspiration, from that church and community that found the only way to loosen some old nails… was with some dynamite. Our Hatfield’s Fuse is named after Harley Hatfield and that dynamite.
