We talk about two main land owner groups of private land in BC: land trusts/land conservancies as well as our own backyards! Then we chat about the inclusion of habitat structures and feeders as well as the benefits of proper maintenance and monitoring of these structures. Finally, we dive deeper into home gardening and landscaping practices to provide insect and bird habitat.

  • Biodiversity and Plastic Pollution

    18 FEB 2021 · This short podcast talks about plastic pollution, highlighting the accumulation of plastic debris in the Pacific Ocean and the process of plastic fragmentation. Then we talk about some of the most common items collected in Canada from 2019 (Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup) and ways to reduce plastic consumption (David Suzuki Foundation). Finally we talk about the role of bioplastics as a partial solution and how we must better reduce our consumption of plastics and recycle the materials which do get used. DON’T BE A LITTER BUG ;)

This will be a 5 part podcast focused around environmental stewardship of urban biodiversity. Whistler is a small but popular ski town located in the Sea 2Sky corridor approximately 1.5 hours North of Vancouver, BC. Urban wildlife are impacted by human societies, some examples include pollution, land-use changes, and human-wildlife conflict. This podcast series will focus on bats, birds, and pollinators as there are many personal and collective actions that people can take to support these taxa, some of which include habitat enhancement projects and holistic landscaping and backyard garden designs.
