The reality about this universe, the reality about life, the reality of existence and reality about me – who am I, what is the cause of my birth and existence, what is the cause of this universe. Knowledge of this truth or reality leads to enlightenment and enlightenment leads to Moksha. Moksha means liberation – liberation from suffering, liberation from the cycle of life and death. What do we mean by reality?

Generally they are recited at the beginning and end of spiritual discourses. Shanti Mantras are invoked in the beginning of Upanishads. They are supposed to calm the mind of the reciter and the environment around him. Reciting them is believed to remove obstacles that are AdhiDaivik, AdhiBhautik and Adhyatmic ie AdhiDaivik obstacles are those that are beyond our control, AdhiBhautik obstacles are those that arise from our environment and Adhyatmic are those obstacles that arise from our body and mind.
