  • #107: On The Case For Reparations with Amandla Thomas-Johnson

12 OCT 2020 · Hi, I’m Alex Holmes and welcome to Time To Talk. Each Monday, I sit down with inspirational people to have a wholehearted conversation about what makes them tick, topics that are important and the small ways in which they are endeavouring to change the world. We unpick mental health, delve into the iniquities of society looking at topics around mental health, positive and healthy masculinity and more - there is so much to learn from every conversation! So, today’s episode. I am joined by Amandla Thomas-Johnson. Amandla is a journalist situated in Dakar, Senegal working on various projects. I was so jealous looking at his apartment which looks out to the Atlantic ocean. There is something about the Atlantic ocean that has a specific connection with Black people, it’s as if you can hear the wails, and history meandering over to the coast. Amandla and I have a conversation about reparations. We spend a bit of time chatting about the Black British Caribbean experience, him hailing from both Trinidad, Tobago and the Grenadines, and myself being Jamaican it was a beautiful conversation about CARICOM’s 10-point plan for reparations. Watch his Double Down News here: https://www.doubledown.news/watch/2020/19/june/the-case-for-reparations-as-told-by-the-descendent-of-a-slave-master-his-slaves-black-lives-matter CARICOM 10-POINT PLAN: https://www.leighday.co.uk/News/2014/March-2014/CARICOM-nations-unanimously-approve-10-point-plan Pirate Studios interview with Ryan Nile: https://pirate.com/en/blog/ryan-nile-podcasting/ Catch me on: Vero: Vero.co/alexreads Website: alexholmes.co Instagram: @byalexholmes Email: tttalkpod@gmail.com Newlsetter: alexholmes.substack.com Music: Harlan Blue Executive Produced: Alex Holmes Edited: Ryan Nile (@ryan.nile.show)
