The Tao of Pooh

  • Winnie-the-Pooh - Exploring a Classic @ the ROM

6 DEC 2020 · This episode explores the ROM’s display of the travelling exhibit Winnie-the-Pooh Exploring a Classic in regards to its connection with Canadian heritage. It was our pleasure to speak with Justin Jennings, one of the curators at the ROM who were responsible for the maintenance of the exhibit. Justin with his thoughtful words was able to elaborate on the story of Winnie-the-Pooh, its deep connection with Canadian heritage and a few more interesting points that can relate to today’s society. Our podcast was made to connect and inform our listeners through the story of Winnie-the-Pooh with a sense of belonging in a Canadian perspective. The ROM does an amazing job with this exhibit and its display to the public through interconnections, an important piece of Canadian history and bringing out the child at heart in all of us.

Hello! Welcome to our podcast The Tao of Pooh! This podcast was produced by three students from York University as a project for the HIST 4840 Public History course. The podcast interprets the Canadian heritage of the travelling exhibit Winnie-the-Pooh Exploring a Classic currently displayed at the Royal Ontario Museum.

The Royal Ontario Museum has been a proud attraction in Toronto since it first opened in 1914. Since then, many exhibits have been displayed for the public to enjoy with their own interpretations and meanings. The ROM is supportive, interactive and inclusive for all their guests who plan to visit the exhibit.

Winnie-the-Pooh is a cultural classic that one does not get to experience and reflect on the historical significance everyday. Winnie-the-pooh has touched the lives and hearts of many people as a child and even adults. The tale of Winnie-the-pooh is more than just a story, it is based on real life events with reference to Canadian history. That Canadian connection relates to the people of Canada in a more thoughtful and interconnected way.
