  • Rocky with Vic Brumfield: Inaugural Endurance Exchange Wrap-Up

    21 FEB 2020 · In this episode of the Sports Leadership Lab, USA Triathlon CEO Rocky Harris welcomes Chief of Staff Victoria Brumfield to recap and share their favorite moments from the inaugural Endurance Exchange, held last month in Tempe, Arizona. Hosted by USA Triathlon and Triathlon Business International, Endurance Exchange welcomed nearly 600 coaches, race directors, industry retailers and others in the multisport community for three days of learning, sharing best practices and collaboration. In this episode, you’ll learn the genesis of the nation’s largest experiential triathlon summit, how Brumfield’s event operations experience at Virgin Sport and Korff Enterprises helped shape the direction of Endurance Exchange and you’ll hear about the wild goose chase to track down a treadmill fast enough for Olympian Anthony Famiglietti to attempt a world-record 2-mile treadmill run in front of a cheering crowd of conference attendees. Harris and Brumfield also share their highlights from the USA Triathlon Foundation’s “Celebration of Sport” gala and induction ceremony of the USA Triathlon Hall of Fame’s 10th induction class, which includes multisport legends Cherie Gruenfeld, Richard Eugene “Dick” Hoyt and Richard Eugene “Rick” Hoyt, Jr., and Mike Plant (posthumous). Also, get to know Brumfield (an accomplished endurance sport athlete herself), who discusses her career in helping build endurance sports events — including the New York City Triathlon and IRONMAN U.S. Championship — from inception to iconic brands.

In the Sports Leadership Lab podcast, USA Triathlon CEO Rocky Harris discusses three of his favorite topics — leadership, sports business and endurance sport — with his two Millennial co-hosts, Caroline Condon and Chase McQueen. These monthly conversations dive into all things endurance sport and business leadership, with guests ranging from key endurance sports figures to sports business leaders and health and wellness experts. A longtime sports executive with experience in the NFL, NCAA and MLS, Harris has been CEO at USA Triathlon since the summer of 2017. Triathletes themselves, Harris, Condon and McQueen also swap their own multisport training and racing triumphs and hurdles, with Condon adding commentary on the USA Triathlon Foundation and McQueen sharing his experience as a future Olympic hopeful as a member of the Project Podium men’s development squad.
