The purpose of this podcast is to inform, inspire, and bring people together to talk and learn about the Secret Jews of the Southwest. Called crypto-jews, conversos, or b'nai anusim, they are descendants of the victims of the Spanish Inquisition. Publicly converting in order to avoid torture or death, their ancestors kept the traditions of their faith alive in secret across continents and centuries. Generations later, thousands of those descendants in the desert southwest are finding out the truth about their heritage, the family history it reveals, the legacy it leaves them, and much more in these stories from Rabbi Stephen Leon of the Anusim Center and Synagogue of El Paso.
