Joker Trailer Has Arrived! Also Happy Birthday to RDJ, and Angel Anniversary Reunion Rumors Persist!

5 APR 2019 · The first trailer for the Todd Phillips-directed Joker, starring Joaquin Phoenix, has arrived. There's a lot to unpack here, but what really caught my eye was a younger-looking Robert DeNiro, who is appearing in the Martin Scorsese-produced film, set in the early '80s as an eerily familiar looking late night talk show host. Sadly, this isn't Rupert Pupkin, but the imagery does ring true in this movie about a sad clown, and there are all kinds of Batman Easter eggs, though the movie itself looks like a combination of Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's version of the Joker's origin from Batman: The Killing Joke, with just enough differences that this could be an "Elseworlds" kind of story. You can watch for yourself here: https://youtu.be/t433PEQGErc Also, Happy Birthday to Robert Downey, Jr.! He actually has a birthday present for us - a fun crossword puzzle, which you can see here: https://twitter.com/RobertDowneyJr/status/1113828746891370496 Also, the Angel 20th anniversary reunion rumors persist - the latest cast member to hint at exciting things to come? None other than J. August Richards, aka Charles Gunn! Thanks for checking out tonight's episode - make sure to subscribe to the show, and to leave ratings and reviews! Avengers Endgame Breaks the Internet

3 APR 2019 · A new trailer (or more specifically, a 'special look') for Avengers: Endgame was released today, driving enthusiasm for the movie to the point where AMC, Fandango and other websites that sell movie tickets, crashed! You can watch the trailer here (but be mindful of potential spoilers, and don't go crashing Fandango): https://youtu.be/KCSNFZKbhZE The crashing of websites is by far the least disturbing topic on tonight's episode, because another new video dropped today - a truly chilling look at Pet Sematary, which looks as good and as terrifying as any Stephen King film adaptation to date. Watch the trailer here, if you dare: https://youtu.be/XakmsXltPkA Plus, there's a brand new poster for the upcoming Joker movie, featuring an extra-creepy Joaquin Phoenix - check it out here: https://twitter.com/WarnerBros_ph/status/1113260437884219392 And another iteration of the Clown Prince of Crime is coming to Gotham for the series finale, and he too is a horror to look at, if also a bit silly. You can see the first promotional image, and a video teaser, here: https://screenrant.com/gotham-finale-joker-image-trailer/ Finally, Zac Efron portrays Ted Bundy - a truly chilling, ultimate evil monster - in this new trailer for Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. Tom Holland Does Not Get the Script

2 APR 2019 · This per Joe Russo, who at a premiere for Avengers: Endgame in India, went on to say that “Tom Holland has a hard time keeping his mouth shut.” It’s not entirely unfair , as you can see an entire timeline of Holland’s spoilage here: https://www.cinemablend.com/news/2452310/the-times-tom-holland-has-spoiled-marvel-secrets Holland is hardly alone, though - check out Mark Ruffalo spoiling the end of Avengers: Infinity War next to a mortified Don Cheadle here: https://youtu.be/_A0UeT38CLo You can watch Russo’s tough-guy talk against your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Actor here: https://www.instagram.com/indotcom/?utm_source=ig_embed Also, there's some great new TV that you need to be watching: specifically HBO's Barry, season 2 of which premiered last night, and Jordan Peele's amazing new take on The Twilight Zone. The first two episodes are now airing on CBS All Access, and the first episode is available for you to watch now, free, on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19GO8-Rrn0g&t=1s Thanks for checking out tonight's episode - make sure to subscribe to the show, and to leave ratings and reviews! Comic Movies and TV Updates March 28, 2019

29 MAR 2019 · Tonight's episode is all about comic characters on screens big and small tonight, as a listener asks me for my thoughts on the Hellboy reboot, and well, based on what I've seen so far, I'm not terribly impressed. Hope springs eternal, however, and on that note Sophie Turner throws a little shade at X-Men: The Last Stand, saying that her titular role in the upcoming Dark Phoenix is not just another take at the classic X-Men storyline, but that her version of the character is "done right." Oh, snap! Meanwhile, Maisie Williams has no more hope than we do that we'll ever see the New Mutants movie, or in what form and on what platform. At least Gotham will be ending with what appears to be a pretty major bit of fan service, as the poster for the 2-part finale suggests we'll finally see Bruce Wayne suit up! You can see the full poster at Deadline: https://deadline.com/2019/03/gotham-fox-has-batman-and-100th-episode-on-the-way-1202584558/ Thanks for checking out tonight's episode - make sure to subscribe to the show, and to leave ratings and reviews! Midweek News Round-Up - Angelina Jolie Joins Eternals Movie, DC Cancels More Scheduled Trades

28 MAR 2019 · Angelina Jolie has reportedly signed on with Marvel, to play a character in their upcoming Eternals movie! Her character has not been named, but my money’s on Circe. Any other guesses? Agree or disagree, I’d love to hear from you so make sure to listen to the end of tonight’s podcast for all of my contact information. Meanwhile, DC is reportedly yet again striking omnibuses, and other trade hardcover and paperback collections, which is always a downer. This one really hurts, as it includes an omnibus dedicated to the Bronze Age adventures of the best villain ever, and the later works of the inimitable Jack Kirby. Also, now we know why Steven Spielberg has really been so down on Netflix, and it’s both exciting and tremendously disappointing. So, it’s all exciting, if a bit huge and not yet entirely clear. The new Apple credit card sound amazing, although it is all sort of becoming a bit of a company store. So let’s go over all the highs and lows, and speculate on the many unknowns and hypotheticals, together! It's Time for Zack Snyder to Stop Talking, Please

26 MAR 2019 · Oh, Zack Snyder - go home, you’re drunk. Snyder is still sticking with his vision of the DC Universe and championing a Batman who kills (and lies and commits atrocities in tandem with the government), which is frankly shocking. How anyone could create Man of Steel, Batman vs. Superman, and Justice League, and not be even a little embarrassed at their incompetence, poor storytelling, and near-universal panning from audiences and critics, and not feel a twinge of regret, is mind-blowing to me. But Snyder let fans have an earful of why superheroes are all monsters, and we should suck it up if we don’t like it. He also gets a little sexual and just generally awful and creepy. Watch the Dunning-Kruger Effect in action, in this video from Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/DC_Cinematic/comments/b4vrku/other_snyder_on_having_batman_kill_in_bvs/ Tomorrow night, I’ll discuss all of the Apple news announced today, after I do some research and take News Plus for a spin. 23 MAR 2019 · Sorry for the abbreviated week - the Matt Sager Podcast will either go weekly, or a few times a week at regular intervals, or resume nightly broadcasts next week. One of the reasons for the lack of episodes this week has been the recording and editing of Robot Mutant, my new show co-hosted by my old friend Bill Kates! Disney Acquires Fox

21 MAR 2019 · Disney continues to grow, changing the media landscape dramatically with today’s acquisition of Fox. For comics and movie fans, this is great news because the X-Men and Fantastic Four will be in far better hands, and a fully cohesive Marvel Cinematic Universe is in our future. For the world, mergers like this do tend to have some nasty blowback. Expect layoffs and other, unpredictable, side effects from this colossal merger, which enlarges Disney but shrinks the already dwindling set of corporate conglomerates that control all media in the U.S. and worldwide. I’m not trying to kill the mood, but I think we should be prepared - based on surviving a few mergers myself, I can speculate. As I said, I am fairly certain that the X-Men and Fantastic Four are going to be great. They could hardly be worse at this point, but Kevin Feige probably has great things in store, with the blowups and changes following Avengers: Endgame leading to a much larger stable of characters, for use in movies and of course to stream, possibly as ongoing series, on Disney Plus. Warners in Crisis

20 MAR 2019 · Kevin Tsujihara is out as Warner Bros. CEO, in the wake of a vile sex scandal involving Brett Ratner, his production partner James Packer, and an actress named Charlotte Kirk. There are no heroes in this tale, although I kind of already thought that Brett Ratner was kind of villainous. Kirk herself has seemingly swept up Neil Marshall, who has devoted his schedule post-Hellboy to booking work for her, and failing that, to create projects for her himself. Love is a funny thing, and love between narcissists is kind of grotesque. This is the same story that resulted in Bryan Singer being removed as director on Red Sonja, so the only ones left to be penalized for their gross behavior are Ratner and Packer. Let's see some consequences for the middle-men, which come to think of it would be a much more fitting name for their production company. Meanwhile, Ezra Miller is apparently trying to solidify his role as The Flash in the upcoming movie spotlighting the speedster, by writing a dark, unpleasant script that flies in the face of DC's stated mission of a less grim cinematic universe, as evidenced by Aquaman and the upcoming Shazam. So of course the brilliant Miller has partnered with Grant Morrison for a grim and gritty Flash script, and fighting with directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. His deal to produce a script that everyone agrees on expires in May, and I'm willing to bet that we're going to find out about yet another DC re-casting sometime in early June.
