  • Encore Gospel Magazine 3:12:24 2.57 PM

12 MAR 2024 · Story by: Gail Nobles Background music by: https://pixabay.com/music/choir-happy-gospel-choir-and-piano-9053/ Today I want to talk about the Encore Gospel Magazine that was launched in 2005 as a digital magazine and a division of Total Prayze Entertainment Group. Encore has since expanded into a leading multimedia brand consisting of a magazine, a music television production studio, Encore Entertainment, an online music video platform: A podcast network and more. The magazine features cover stories like Jekalyn Carr. It’s good to have gospel magazines. I don’t remember any black gospel music magazines in the 80’s and 90’s on the shelf at the bookstore. It was always the Ebony, Jet, and RightOn magazines that were so popular about black entertainment. There may have been some black gospel music magazines around during that time, but I just didn’t see them.  It seemed as if the Rock n Roll entertainers were the ones that stood out on the bookshelfs and television the most. It seemed like they were the ones getting the publicity constantly.  I mostly heard about gospel singers mostly through radio on Sunday mornings on a show called Inspirations Across America. There was a program on Black Entertainment Television hosted by Dr. Bobby Jones (Bobby Jones Gospel). The series premiered on Sunday, January 27, 1980, two days after the network's January 25 launch. I didn’t always know about the show, and I didn’t always have cable or satellite. But getting back to the Encore Gospel Magazine, it’s great to have it. It’s great to read & keep up with some of your greastest and favorite gospel stars. It’s great to read & keep up with some of your greatest and favorite gospel stars. The Encore Entertainment Magazine is a division of Total Prayze Entertainment Group created & designed by David M. Wallace. To learn more about the magazine and the entertainment group, music, film, television. live events, go to totalprayze.com. Prayze is spelled P R A Y Z E. That’s totalprayze.com. I’m Gail Nobles. 20 JAN 2024 · Intro by: Gail Nobles Cover Art by: Gail Nobles Story by: Gail Nobles Luther Barnes is a record producer, Director, songwriter, composer, and lead singer of Luther Barnes and the Sunset Jubilaires and the Red Budd Gospel Choir. He is an ordain minister and native son of Rocky Mount North Carolina. He wrote the famous Rough Sde of the Mountain and is the son of the late Rev. FC Barnes. Luther Barnes shares the fame with Deborah Barnes of the song Still Holding On. Deborah is the lead female vocalist of the group with her many talents. Luther Barnes and The Red Gospel Choir have other hits like That Other Shore and No Matter How High I Get written by Bobby Womack. I want to talk about the gospel hit So Satisfied. It got my attention right from the beginning of the music. I thought: I know this song is going to be a good one. And when I heard the beginning words of the choir, I thought: it's a good one. And after the course when Luther Barnes sings: I'm satisfied with the way that he cares for me ….. I knew I was being led into a story of how blessed I am. Luther was telling the story of his life and the story of others. The song comes from the album with the same title of the single So Satisfied (Luther Barnes and the Red Budd Gospel Choir). Barnes is currently the Senior Pastor and Founder of Restoration Worship Center, Rocky Mount established in January 2014. You're listening to a show about the Gospel Greats. I’m your host, Gail Nobles. Today's topic: Luther Barnes and the Red Budd Choir - So Satisfied.

22 NOV 2023 · Story by: Gail Nobles Photo Credit: Scott Griessel, https://www.flickr.com/photos/creatista/ Usage: Wikipedia https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0 Hello welcome to The Gospel Greats. I'm Gail Nobles. According to the New York Times, Carlton Pearson passed away at age 70 November 19, 2023. He was a Christian minister and gospel music artist. I'm not podcasting to judge him about his religious beliefs. I'm not here to judge anyone. If Carlton beliefs were wrong about heaven and hell, maybe God showed him the truth before breath left his body. We don't know everything, and some things is just between the individual soul and God until the Lord comes. When the Lord comes, we’ll know everything then. And what we don't understand now like Carlton Pearson used to sing: and we'll understand it better by and by. I've enjoyed hearing him sing that song and telling the story about his mother. Carlton Pearson and Pop Winans: We’ll Understand It Better by and by-Live. He sang Jesus I'll Never Forget/He's Done So Much For Me, Father Alone (We will understand why. Cheer up my brother). Remember that one? Those songs came from Carlton Pearson's album titled: Carlton Pearson Live at Azusa 2: Precious Memories. It was his 1997 album. • Dr. C.J. Johnson 10:31:23 8.58 PM

1 NOV 2023 · Song: Somebody's Calling My Name Use: Hymn Song In Public Domain Song by: Dr. C.J. Johnson Intro by: Gail Nobles Today's topic is Dr. CJ Johnson, a gospel music singing preacher and pastor. Claude Joseph Johnson is his name. He was born on May 16, 1913, in Douglasville, Georgia, the son of Will and Cora Reid Johnson. The family moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1916. His mother died when he was young, and he with his elder and younger sister were raised by his paternal grandmother, Sarah Farley Johnson. His father, Will, was a shape note teacher in Georgia in the 1920s and 1930s. He first acted as pastor at the age of 12 at the Antioch Baptist Church in Barnesville, Georgia. He was pastor in 14 churches, including his own foundation of the St Joseph's Missionary Baptist Church. Although Johnson had been active in Georgia since his early years, he only gained wider prominence from 1964, when he came to the attention of Fred Mendelsohn, then executive producer at Savoy Records. He recorded at least 20 albums, all of which were recorded in his church rather than in a recording studio.Although most of his recorded songs are traditional, 26 are listed as his own compositions. His 1970 recording of "I Wanna Go Where Jesus Is" was a gold-selling record. I love the way Johnson sings Hush! Hush! Somebody's Calling My Name. From the 1966 album Dr. C.J. Johnson The Old Time Song Service. They didn't have music.Just handclaps, the choir, and Johnson singing. Johnson was saying I'm so glad troubles don't last always and I'm so glad I got my religion in time. Every time I hear him sing and get to the end of each line of the song, I think to myself carry-on carry-on. When you get caught up in what he's singing, it makes you patient enough to listen no matter how long the song is. I listen and agree to the end of the song. You're listening to the Gospel Greats. I'm Gail Nobles. Today's topic: Dr. CJ Johnson.

  • SEMAJE 9:8:23 2.27 PM

8 SEP 2023 · Today's topic is Semaje “I Rely”. Semaje has a ballot titled I Rely. It seems to be a popular gospel song. I love the song I rely by Semaje because that's what God has been telling me to do. Rely on him .Semaje’s song is a true gospel song because we must rely on God. I don't know much about Semaje, but I know he must have realized something about relying on God to make this song I Rely. The song must have touched others for the fact that the song has received attention. I don't think relying on God is something easy for the world. We are used to doing things on our own and that's the world’s way. When you try to rely on God, it may not make sense to the world. But the Bible say be not conformed to this world. That’s Romans 12:2. Semaje _I Rely caught my attention the minute I heard the music. It’s a very inspiring gospel ballad that could last into the future. I'm Gail nobles, and you’re listening to a podcast about the Gospel greats. Today’s topic: Semaje _ I Rely.

  • Candi Staton - Sin Doesn’t Live Here Anymore 6:8:23 8.21 PM

9 JUN 2023 · Song: Sin Doesn't Live Here Anymore Song by: Candi Staton Photo Credit: Man Alive/Flickr Usage: CC BY 2.0 https://flic.kr/p/a2dobB Intro music by: Gail Nobles Vocals by: Gail Nobles Today’s topic is Candi Staton - “Sin Doesn’t Live Here Anymore” The first gospel song Staton wrote after leaving her R&B career in 1982. 1 Cor. 3:16-17 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy, for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. “Sin Doesn’t Live Here Anymore” is a beautiful gospel song by Candi Staton. In her lyrics, she said: This body of mine is his temple His home away from home I must keep it spotless for him It must stay ready for his coming Swept clean with truth and love That’s why sin doesn’t live here anymore. Those are truthful & beautiful words describing the body which is the temple of God. Candi Staton is a great singer and songwriter. Some of you may know her best as a soul R&B singer, but she has made some beautiful gospel songs as well. I remember when she appeared on the Trinity Broadcasting Network TV show “New Direction”. Her sister Maggie Staton and Felicia Calloway would do background vocals for her. God gave Candi so much talent, but he also gave her a new direction. (Singing) New Direction That’s what you have given me.” That’s what she would sing when her show “New Direction” would come on the air for television back in 1989. Candi Staton is also a breast cancer survivor always thanking God. She must have done something right in her life. The Lord loves Candi, and he loves us all. Nobody lives you like the Lord. I’m Gail Nobles on the Gospel Greats. I’m going to leave you now with the intro for today’s podcast, Candi Staton - “Sin Doesn’t Live Here Anymore”.

  • Shirley Caesar Singing the Gospel 5:5:23 11.32 PM

6 MAY 2023 · Song intro: Shirley Caesar Singing the Gospel Song intro written by: Gail Nobles ©️ 2023 Music by: Gail Nobles Vocals by: Gail Nobles Story by: Gail Nobles Photo: Movieguide https://flic.kr/p/2jjs3HV Usage: CC BY-SA 2.0 Intro song: Shirley Caesar Singing the gospel Shirley Caesar Preaching the gospel (He called her name) Shirley! God calls by name Shirley! Not for fortune and fame Shirley! To the Lord, one day she came. I've got to tell you again about Shirley Caesar. I learned a lot about true gospel music listening to her sing. When Shirley Caesar sings the gospel, she sings like she means business. She doesn't sugarcoat the gospel. She tells it like it is in her songs and doesn't leave out the truth. Ceasar has been singing since 1951. That's when she signed to Federal Records at the age of 12. You know that's a long time. And she still sings and moves like she’s twelve years old. She doesn't look her age at all. God has blessed Shirley Caesar. According to SoundScan, she has sold 2.2 million albums since 1991. She’s won awards and has been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. She has been honored with a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contributions in gospel music. Caesar has been referred to as the First Lady of Gospel music, and The Queen of Gospel Music. I've bought Shirley Caesar’s cassettes and CD’s and played them to death; mostly cassettes. I was always listening out for her on the Sunday morning radio show, “Inspirations Across America” back in the day. Although things have changed in music & radio, I still listen out for Shirley Caesar. She's the best still singing and preaching the gospel. I'm Gail Nobles reminding you of the gospel greats. I'm going to leave you now with the intro song of today's podcast by Gail Nobles tiled “Shirley Caesar Singing the Gospel”. ...

  • Rev. Thomas L. Walker - One Day At A Time 3:16:23 6.48 PM

16 MAR 2023 · Song: Oneday At A Time Song by: Rev. Thomas L. Walker Podcast vocals: Gail Nobles Keyboard and Drummer: Gail Nobles Hello Everyone! Today’s topic is Rev. Thomas L. Walker - One Day At A Time. The song went something like this. (Song) … I remember that song from a little 45 record. It got played to death in my home because somebody knew what Rev. Thomas L. Walker was singing about. I believe that’s a Sunday classic. I remember Rev. Thomas reciting a poem. Rev. : One day at a time. That’s a lesson that we all need to learn. The sooner the better. Poem: Said the Robin to the sparrow “Friend, I’d really like to know why these anxious human beings rush around and worry so?” Said the sparrow to the Robin “Friend I think that it must be that they have no Heavenly Father such as cares for you and me.” Rev: You know I’m glad I learned a lesson one day that we must take life one day at a time. You see, Rev. Thomas went on to tell his story. The name of the poem is “Said the Robin to the Sparrow”by Elizabeth Cheney published in 1859. When I look at a sparrow or any kind of bird now, I think about that poem. When the birds do sit up high in the trees looking down at us. Everyday I’m a little worried about something. But I thank God for music so I won’t totally worry all the time. I thank God that we can take time out for the Lord & pray & study his word. I thank God for Rev. Thomas L. Walker & his choir for singing the song, “ One Day At A Time”. I’m Gail Nobles & you’re listening to a show about the Gospel Greats. Tune in again next time for more. Thank you for listening.

  • James Fortune - Dear Future Me 3:1:23 2.59 PM

1 MAR 2023 · Song: Dear Future Me Song by: James Fortune Photo credit: https://www.flickr.com/photos/usagapg/ Usage: CC BY 2.0 Intro by: Gail Nobles Keyboardist : Gail Nobles Vocals: Gail Nobles Hello! I’m Gail Nobles on The Gospel Greats. “Dear Future Me” is a gospel song by James Fortune. I’m impressed with the cover of the single. Half of his face is the future. The other half is probably him in the present, but what I’m most impressed with is his single, “Dear Future Me”. James Fortune is a gospel music recording artist, songwriter, and producer. He is also a radio personality on 1190 AM WLIB. As much or more a preacher, choir leader, master of ceremonies, and worship service manager as he is straight -up singer. Fortune's strength is in understanding how to put gospel and praise songs over to a young 21st century audience, and with his featured choir, https://www.allmusic.com/artist/fiya-mn0002113886 (which stands for Free in Yahweh's Abundance), he freely incorporates hip-hop arrangements and urban beats into his recordings according to his bio. You can hear it in his song, “Dear Future Me”. In the song, James Fortune asked the questions that many of us ask when we are trying to get somewhere. Will I ever move from this place? Is it worth the fight? How Will I Know? Where Will I Go? You can hear the single on Spotify. So make sure to check it out. I’m Gail Nobles on The Gospel Greats.
