  • Dyson's New Headphones, Sony's Playstation Subscription and April Fools!

5 APR 2022 · Welcome back! This week we have a lot of very interesting news! Have a listen!! The Red Planet: www.shreyaan.tech/the-red-planet Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/artist/1iDTYsf7vCKMTx2iLsyc0U?si=Ctn0MosURK24bdyBKW08Hw YouTube: www.youtube.com/shreyaanvashishtha Dyson's New Headphones + Air Purifying Visor Mask Stuff Dyson has been forced to deny that its new headphones with air-purifying technology are an April Fool's Day joke. After making it big with vacuum cleaners, air purifiers and hair styling devices, the British tech company announced its foray into wearable technology earlier this week. On March 30, Dyson released visuals of its new noise-cancelling headphones - Dyson Zone - which include an inbuilt air-purifying device. The headphones come with a bizarre-looking face visor that will "supply a continuous stream of purified air to your nose and mouth," Dyson said. Playstation's Xbox Game Pass competitor Sony has announced a major rework of its online PlayStation Plus service, which will now be including additional tiers that bring a library of games that users can download and play, as well as integrating the cloud-based PlayStation Now service. The first tier will be PlayStation Plus Essential, which is exactly identical to the current PlayStation Plus service. This includes all of the same benefits, such as two monthly downloadable games, online multiplayer access, cloud saves, and discounts. The pricing will also remain the same, which is $10 monthly, $25 quarterly, and $60 yearly. All existing PlayStation Plus users will be migrated to this tier. WhatsApp's New Camera UI for Android WhatsApp has been busy tweaking features and functions, with new options for messaging and a limited test of sharing files as large as 2 GB. With 5 billion Play Store downloads, it's easily the most popular messaging app in the world, meaning it's on every kind of phone. Yet updates to WhatsApp features don't always roll out to everyone at once — there are, after all, 2 billion monthly active users — so a new camera interface that iOS devices have had for months is just now going out to Android users. WABetaInfo reports that some users are seeing an updated camera interface in updates to the latest WhatsApp beta version for Android. This includes a new look when selecting media as well. Additionally, the camera's media bar — which had been removed in iOS, prompting user complaints — has apparently been restored. If you're not a beta tester, don't worry. WhatsApp can be slow with new features but chances are that you'll get it eventually. If you're lucky, the new look for the camera will be accompanied by the boosted 2 GB file-sharing capacity, making high-resolution photos that much easier to send to your contacts. Snapchat now lets you share YouTube videos as a sticker in your Snap Snapchat is making it easier to share YouTube videos within your snap or story, letting you bypass the process of copying, pasting, and attaching the video as a link (via Android Police). The feature is available on both Android and iOS. Now, all you need to do is navigate to the YouTube video you want to share, hit the “Share” button, and then select “Snapchat.” Snapchat will open, and the video will automatically appear in your camera as its own sticker, showing the name, thumbnail, and creator of the video. After you take your picture or video, you can play around with the size of the sticker, rotate it, and place it anywhere on the screen. Anyone who views your snap or story can click on the link and view the video within the YouTube app or in their web browser. Reddit Brings Back R/Place Artwork Social media platform Reddit has brought back r/place, its collaborative artwork. The board is a large grid where collaborators placed tiles on a blank communal canvas. The artwork became live at midnight on April 2. The contributions from around the world created a collective digital art piece. The original version of r/place was launched in 2017 and created by Josh Wardle, who later created popular online game Wordle. The communal 1000*1000 pixel canvas was one of the most popular April Fools' Day experiences of Reddit. It has now been improved and expanded internationally on the platform, which has a user base of 50 million daily active unique users and over 10,000 communities.

  • Apple's Mac Studio and Studio Display and Microsoft gets hacked!

23 MAR 2022 · Welcome back! This week we have a lot of very interesting news! Have a listen!! Apple Mac Studio The M1 Max includes a die-to-die connector, allowing Apple to join two of them together to form the Ultra, thereby doubling the amount of everything — CPU and GPU cores, for example. It uses high-bandwidth memory and can hold up to 128GB of data, although it consumes less power when combined than two standalone devices. The processor makes its debut in the new Mac Studio, a computer that appears like a double-height Mac Mini, albeit the M1 Max is included in the base configuration. Apple has positioned its performance as equivalent to or better than the Mac Pro, making it an excellent option for the majority of producers who don't require the Mac Pro's expandability. The new Mac Studio features plenty of ventilation and a powerful cooling system, as well as six Thunderbolt 4 connections and the ability to drive up to four Pro XDR monitors. It starts at $1,999 (£1,999, AU$2,499) and goes up to $3,999 (£3,999, AU$6,099) with Apple's new M1 Ultra chip. You can order it now, and it will be delivered on March 18. Apple Studio Display The iPad-like profile of the 27-inch 5K Retina display matches that of the 24-inch iMac. It has the same A13 Bionic chip as the entry-level iPad, which allows it to process iPad-like features like Center Stage via the built-in 12-megapixel webcam, as well as several mics, six speakers, and four USB-C connections, one of which is Thunderbolt. It will cost you more if you want a stand that can raise and lower it or if you want the good antireflective Nano surface screen. The standard price is $1,599 (£1,499, AU$2,499), and it's available to order now. Microsoft Gets Hacked by Lapsus$ The hacking group Lapsus$, known for claiming to have hacked Nvidia, Samsung, and more, this week claimed it has even hacked Microsoft. The group posted a file that it claimed contains partial source code for Bing and Cortana in an archive holding nearly 37GB of data. On Tuesday evening, after investigating, Microsoft confirmed the group that it calls DEV-0537 compromised “a single account” and stole parts of source code for some of its products. A blog post on its security site says Microsoft investigators have been tracking the Lapsus$ group for weeks, and details some of the methods they’ve used to compromise victims’ systems. According to the Microsoft Threat Intelligence Center (MSTIC), “the objective of DEV-0537 actors is to gain elevated access through stolen credentials that enable data theft and destructive attacks against a targeted organization, often resulting in extortion. Tactics and objectives indicate this is a cybercriminal actor motivated by theft and destruction.” Webb Space Telescope Begins Multi-Instrument Alignment After meeting the major milestone of aligning the telescope to NIRCam, the Webb team is starting to extend the telescope alignment to the guider (the Fine Guidance Sensor, or FGS) and the other three science instruments. This six-week-long process is called multi-instrument multi-field (MIMF) alignment. Thanks for checking this podcast out! My name is Shreyaan Vashishtha and I make tech videos on YouTube.
