  • Football: not just a man's game.

6 DEC 2013 · Corey and Steve invite you to tune in as they tackle some of the week's big topics in football and in life. This week we will talk about the latest Football headlines from the NFL and NCAA including our updated BCS bowl and NFL playoff predictions. At about 20 minutes into the show, we are honored to have Dr. Jen Welter as our guest on the show to talk about women in sports. Dr. Jen has a PhD in Sports Psychology, she stands 5’2”, and plays linebacker for the Dallas Diamonds – a women’s professional football team. Jen found her love for full-contact sports at Boston College, playing rugby all four years. Despite her success, she was too small to continue, and her dream to represent the USA in Rugby ended there. Shortly aftwards, Jen was asked to tryout for the Mass Mutiny, a women’s football team. In her second season, Jen was named an All-American. After her second season, Jen relocated to Dallas, TX to play with the Dallas Dragons. Following that season, Welter left the Dragons and joined the Dallas Diamonds where she recently completed her 10th season. She has been named an All-American 8 times, and on October 21st, Jen was among the players honored at the White House by the Council on Women and Girls. Dr. Welter’s success in both football and education has been supported by her 17 year fitness career, which began in high school, when she first became certified to teach aerobics. Football, fitness, and psychology are interwoven in Dr. Welter’s endeavors in speaking, writing, consulting, and mentorship. You can find more about her amazing story at: http://www.jenwelter.com Please don’t miss what will be a fascinating show!

  • Is Florida State the next Penn State?

22 NOV 2013 · Welcome to First & Life where Corey and Steve invite you to tune in as they tackle some of the week's big topics in football and in life. Today’s show will focus on the recent rumblings out of Tallahassee where Heisman hopeful, Jameis Winston, stands accused – not charged – of sexual assault. The story becomes more and more disturbing as reports indicate that local police may have been involved in a cover-up of a serious crime. As the accuser of the alleged attack was being discouraged from coming out earlier this year, Winston’s attorneys were given ample time to prepare for their defense. Prosecutors were kept in the dark while Winston prepared for a BCS/Heisman season. What did FSU coaches know, when did they know it, and what did they do to cover-up the alleged assault. We will talk about how perspective sometimes gets lost in all the glamour and hype of big-time college football. The guys will attempt to answer the question: What would Joe Paterno do? Corey and Steve will wrap up with their BCS and Superbowl predictions as we head into the holidays. Feel free to join the discussion by calling in, we want to hear from you!
