In this episode we have a conversation with Susanna Post, a math and business technology teacher at Belle Point Alternative Center in Fort Smith, who is also the 2021 Arkansas Teacher of the Year. A teacher for five years, she’s said to use her experience in the oil and gas business to help connect students with the world outside the classroom. She started teaching in North Carolina in 2002, but after a family move worked for oil and gas companies in Texas and Fort Smith before returning to the classroom. In this episode, Cassandra has a conversation with Dr. Robin Finley and Donnie Lee about a recent visit to Holly Harshman Elementary School in Mena, Arkansas. The students at Holly Harshman were treated to a concert by Mr. Steve the Music Man after they won a social media contest by sharing Mr. Steve's "Cyberwise" music video. Donnie was at the concert event capturing video and audio from the concert and student interviews conducted by Mr. Steve before the show. Join us as we break down what we learned from the interviews and highlight some of the students responses. Mr. Steve Bio: Mr. Steve, The Music Man creates high-quality, socially conscious music for children! Writing and performing original songs, Mr. Steve is a preschool music teacher who hosts his own morning radio show on Lightning 100 called The Early Birds with Mr. Steve. Featuring special guests, fun themes, and giveaway prizes each week, The Early Birds reaches out to both kids and adults, providing positive, educational content to listen to on the way to school and work! Mr. Steve has become the premier performer for children in the Nashville area, hosting and curating the Kids Music Fest at Live on the Green each year, partnering up with the Governor and his wife for their summer reading initiative “Read to Be Ready” and will be playing Pilgrimage Festival this fall. SMACtalk for Teachers is designed to aid teachers in the practice and promotion of online safety and security. This webpage features our SMACtalk for Teachers Podcast and other useful links. Our podcast will feature an interview with a new special guest every month for each SMACtalk theme.

Student learning is a shared responsibility between schools and parents. Technology is transforming how and where students learn. The classroom has been extended to any location with an internet connection. As students spend more time learning and socializing online, we all need to work together to ensure our students stay healthy and safe. The Social Media Awareness Campaign (SMACtalk) was formed in response to this need. The purpose of SMACtalk is to bring awareness, provide resources, and increase communication for teachers, parents, and students.
