  • Be inspired - SheStory: Kelsi Sheren

6 JUN 2015 · A cause that is close to the hearts of many at SheTalks is the Canadian Forces. We're so thankful for the service that our military men and women provide, so we were so excited that Kelsi Sheren, CEO and Founder of Her Wearables agreed to do a podcast with us! Who is Kelsi? Well, you may have seen some of her super amazing bullet bracelets at stores in the lower mainland. The sales from these bracelets go to support the Wounded Warriors Canada Project. Kelsi's bio from her website (http://www.her-wearables.com/about/) My name is Kelsi Sheren, I am the creator of Her Wearables. I have had a very interesting journey on my way to creating Her. Fresh out of college I joined the Military, had a 4 year stint in the Canadian Forces including a 2009 tour in Afghanistan, I got an EMR paramedic degree, a Criminology degree, fell in love and married my husband, and now as a retired Veteran I am starting the next chapter in my life as a jewellery designer and entrepreneur. This project started out as a hobby, but has quickly grown into an amazing jewellery company called her. I chose the simple and elegant name Her for the company because I wanted to offer jewellery inspired by life experiences specifically to women. Her might be you. Her might be a family member. Her could be a stranger on the street, or someone you have known for years - But the truth is, Her can be any woman. Many of us share experiences with each other every day, and I wanted to create pieces that remind all of us what it's like to be a woman in today's modern world. No matter what you have experienced in your life, Her aims to tell a part of my story, your story, and all of our stories with each uniquely created collection.

  • Be inspired - SheStory: Roseleen Nijjar

22 APR 2015 · Every podcast we do is an incredible experience. There is nothing more powerful than hearing a woman's story in its purest, rawest form. Roseleen's story is no different, and is one that has touched many at SheTalks in a very personal way. A story that brings to light the realities of domestic violence in young relationships, and the need to educate young people on recognizing the signs of an unhealthy relationship. In 2011, Roseleen's sister, Maple Batalia, was gunned down by her ex-boyfriend after leaving a late night study session at SFU Surrey. An unthinkable death that Maple's family has handled with poise, grace and beauty - all of the things that Maple embodied. Roseleen's story is one of tragedy...and how tragedy can sometimes force us to pull out of our darkest places, and find any glimmer of light. Roseleen's story is about her journey to find light, hope and create positive changes from Maple's passing. • Be inspired - SheStory: Diana Bedoya

17 APR 2015 · Let's start off this episode description with an excerpt from Diana's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/deltaU) "Delta U was created because we were freakin' sick and tired of the crap information and poor advice there is out there regarding eating well, being active and taking care of your body. We are quite frankly fed up, and we want to help change the conversation." We had so much fun hearing about Diana's journey from being obese as a young child, to getting on a healthy living track, and now finding ways to empower others to realize that you can change your challenges to opportunities. Diana is an innovative firecracker with just the right amount of sass and #ShePower. We hope you enjoy her story.
