10 MAR 2017 · Psalm 51  1 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your loving-kindness; * in your great compassion blot out my offenses. 2 Wash me through and through from my wickedness * and cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I know my transgressions, * and my sin is ever before me. . 4 Against you only have I sinned * and done what is evil in your sight. 5 And so you are justified when you speak * and upright in your judgment. 6 Indeed, I have been wicked from my birth, * a sinner from my mother's womb. 7 For behold, you look for truth deep within me, * and will make me understand wisdom secretly. 8 Purge me from my sin, and I shall be pure; * wash me, and I shall be clean indeed. 9 Make me hear of joy and gladness, * that the body you have broken may rejoice. 10 Hide your face from my sins * and blot out all my iniquities. 11 Create in me a clean heart, O God, * and renew a right spirit within me. 12 Cast me not away from your presence * and take not your holy Spirit from me. 13 Give me the joy of your saving help again * and sustain me with your bountiful Spirit. 14 I shall teach your ways to the wicked, * and sinners shall return to you. 15 Deliver me from death, O God, * and my tongue shall sing of your righteousness, O God of my salvation. 16 Open my lips, O Lord, * and my mouth shall proclaim your praise. 17 Had you desired it, I would have offered sacrifice, * but you take no delight in burnt-offerings. 18 The sacrifice of God is a troubled spirit; * a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. 19 Be favorable and gracious to Zion, * and rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. 20 Then you will be pleased with the appointed sacrifices, with burnt-offerings and oblations; * then shall they offer young bullocks upon your altar.

17 FEB 2017 · 107 1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, * and his mercy endures for ever. 2 Let all those whom the Lord has redeemed proclaim * that he redeemed them from the hand of the foe. 3 He gathered them out of the lands; * from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.   4 Some wandered in desert wastes; * they found no way to a city where they might dwell. 5 They were hungry and thirsty; * their spirits languished within them. 6 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, * and he delivered them from their distress. 7 He put their feet on a straight path * to go to a city where they might dwell. 8 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his mercy * and the wonders he does for his children. 9 For he satisfies the thirsty * and fills the hungry with good things. 10 Some sat in darkness and deep gloom, * bound fast in misery and iron; 11 Because they rebelled against the words of God * and despised the counsel of the Most High. 12 So he humbled their spirits with hard labor; * they stumbled, and there was none to help. 13 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, * and he delivered them from their distress. 14 He led them out of darkness and deep gloom * and broke their bonds asunder. 15 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his mercy * and the wonders he does for his children. 16 For he shatters the doors of bronze * and breaks in two the iron bars.   17 Some were fools and took to rebellious ways; * they were afflicted because of their sins. 18 They abhorred all manner of food * and drew near to death's door. 19 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, * and he delivered them from their distress. 20 He sent forth his word and healed them * and saved them from the grave. 21 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his mercy * and the wonders he does for his children. 22 Let them offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving * and tell of his acts with shouts of joy. 23 Some went down to the sea in ships * and plied their trade in deep waters; 24 They beheld the works of the Lord * and his wonders in the deep. 25 Then he spoke, and a stormy wind arose, * which tossed high the waves of the sea. 26 They mounted up to the heavens and fell back to the depths; * their hearts melted because of their peril. 27 They reeled and staggered like drunkards * and were at their wits' end. 28 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, * and he delivered them from their distress. 29 He stilled the storm to a whisper * and quieted the waves of the sea. 30 Then were they glad because of the calm, * and he brought them to the harbor they were bound for. 31 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his mercy * and the wonders he does for his children. 32 Let them exalt him in the congregation of the people * and praise him in the council of the elders.

4 FEB 2017 · Matthew 5:1-12 When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.  “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.  “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.  “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.  “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.  “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.  “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  “Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you."

29 JAN 2017 · Psalm 55  1 Hear my prayer,O God; * do not hide yourself from my petition. 2Listen to me and answer me; * I have no peace, because of my cares. 3I am shaken by the noise of the enemy * and by the pressure of the wicked; 4For they have cast an evil spell upon me * and are set against me in fury. 5My heart quakes within me, * and the terrors of death have fallen upon me. 6 Fear and trembling have come over me, * and horror overwhelms me. 7And I said, "Oh, that I had wings like a dove! * I would fly away and be at rest. 8I would flee to a far-off place * and make my lodging in the wilderness. 9I would hasten to escape * from the stormy wind and tempest." 10 Swallow them up, O Lord; confound their speech; * for I have seen violence and strife in the city. 11Day and night the watchmen make their rounds upon her walls, * but trouble and misery are in the midst of her. 12 There is corruption at her heart; * her streets are never free of oppression and deceit. 13For had it been an adversary who taunted me, then I could have borne it; * or had it been an enemy who vaunted himself against me, then I could have hidden from him. 14But it was you, a man after my own heart, * my companion, my own familiar friend. 15 We took sweet counsel together, * and walked with the throng in the house of God. 16Let death come upon them suddenly; let them go down alive to the grave; * for wickedness is in their dwellings, in their very midst. 17 But I will call upon God, * and the LORD will deliver me. 18In the evening, in the morning, and at noonday, I will complain and lament, * and he will hear my voice. 19 He will bring me safely back from the battle waged against me; * for there are many who fight me. 20God, who is enthroned of old, will hear me and bring them down; * they never change; they do not fear God. 21My companion stretched forth his hand against his comrade; * he has broken his covenant. 22 His speech is softer than butter, * but war is in his heart. 23 His words are smoother than oil, * but they are drawn swords. 24 Cast your burden upon the LORD, and he will sustain you; * he will never let the righteous stumble. 25For you will bring the bloodthirsty and deceitful * down to the pit of destruction, O God. 26 They shall not live out half their days, * but I will put my trust in you.

26 JAN 2017 · Psalm 37  1Do not fret yourself because of evildoers; * do not be jealous of those who do wrong. 2For they shall soon wither like the grass, * and like the green grass fade away. 3Put your trust in the LORD and do good; * dwell in the land and feed on its riches. 4Take delight in the LORD, * and he shall give you your heart's desire. 5Commit your way to the LORD and put your trust in him, * and he will bring it to pass. 6He will make your righteousness as clear as the light * and your just dealing as the noonday. 7Be still before the LORD * and wait patiently for him. 8Do not fret yourself over the one who prospers, * the one who succeeds in evil schemes. 9Refrain from anger, leave rage alone; * do not fret yourself; it leads only to evil. 10For evildoers shall be cut off, * but those who wait upon the LORD shall possess the land. 11In a little while the wicked shall be no more; * you shall search out their place, but they will not be there. 12But the lowly shall possess the land; * they will delight in abundance of peace. 13The wicked plot against the righteous * and gnash at them with their teeth. 14The Lord laughs at the wicked, * because he sees that their day will come. 15The wicked draw their sword and bend their bow to strike down the poor and needy, * to slaughter those who are upright in their ways. 16Their sword shall go through their own heart, * and their bow shall be broken. 17The little that the righteous has * is better than great riches of the wicked. 18For the power of the wicked shall be broken, * but the LORD upholds the righteous.

10 JAN 2017 · Ephesians 1:1-14 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints who are in us and are faithful in Christ Jesus: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, just as he chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before him in love. He destined us for adoption as his children through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace that he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and insight he has made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that he set forth in Christ, as a plan for the fullness of time, to gather up all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. In Christ we have also obtained an inheritance, having been destined according to the purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to his counsel and will, so that we, who were the first to set our hope on Christ, might live for the praise of his glory. In him you also, when you had heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and had believed in him, were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit; this is the pledge of our inheritance toward redemption as God's own people, to the praise of his glory. 2 JAN 2017 · Psalm 34  1 I will bless the LORD at all times; * his praise shall ever be in my mouth. 2 I will glory in the LORD; * let the humble hear and rejoice. 3 Proclaim with me the greatness of the LORD; * let us exalt his Name together. 4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me * and delivered me out of all my terror. 5 Look upon him and be radiant, * and let not your faces be ashamed. 6 I called in my affliction and the LORD heard me * and saved me from all my troubles. 7 The angel of the LORD encompasses those who fear him, * and he will deliver them. 8 Taste and see that the LORD is good; * happy are they who trust in him! 9 Fear the LORD, you that are his saints, * for those who fear him lack nothing. 10 The young lions lack and suffer hunger, * but those who seek the LORD lack nothing that is good. 11 Come, children, and listen to me; * I will teach you the fear of the LORD. 12 Who among you loves life * and desires long life to enjoy prosperity? 13 Keep your tongue from evil-speaking * and your lips from lying words. 14 Turn from evil and do good; * seek peace and pursue it. 15 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, * and his ears are open to their cry. 16 The face of the LORD is against those who do evil, * to root out the remembrance of them from the earth. 17 The righteous cry, and the LORD hears them * and delivers them from all their troubles. 18 The LORD is near to the brokenhearted * and will save those whose spirits are crushed. 19 Many are the troubles of the righteous, * but the LORD will deliver him out of them all. 20 He will keep safe all his bones; * not one of them shall be broken. 21 Evil shall slay the wicked, * and those who hate the righteous will be punished. 22 The LORD ransoms the life of his servants, * and none will be punished who trust in him.
