10 FEB 2023 · Getting your dream of becoming an author off the ground with Lorna Hollifield Lorna Hollifield is a Charleston-based fiction author and magazine columnist, as well as the Editor in Chief of The Yellow Bird Press.  She grew up in the mountains outside of Asheville North Carolina, where she started writing as a first grader.  Lorna spent many years seeking publication, writing for numerous blogs, contributing to literary anthologies, and appearing in small publications.  In 2017, her debut novel Tobacco Sun was picked up by Pen Name Publishing, and catapulted her into the professional writing world.  Shortly after, Lorna became a columnist in a suburban newspaper called The Islander, and then Charleston’s leading women’s magazine, Skirt. She now writes regularly for Azalea Magazine.  Lorna founded The Yellow Bird Press in 2019 to find authentic stories with wings ready to truly fly.  Her goal is to set these stories free into the world where they belong.  When Lorna isn’t writing or combing the world for amazing new authors, she is most likely on a beach somewhere with her husband Kimsey, daughter Allyn, and spunky spaniel, Margaret.

28 JAN 2023 · holocaust survivor Ben Lesser tells his tragic real-life story of surviving the holocaust - Replay for holocaust remembrance day Ben Lesser was born in Krakow Poland in 1928. He had 2 brothers and 2 sisters, his older sister Lola and he are the only remaining survivors out of his immediate family of seven. The rest of his immediate family as well as his extended family who numbered in the hundreds were all slaughtered by the Nazi’s in their willing collaborators. During those 5 years of living hell on earth, Ben was fortunate to survive several Ghetto’s and concentration camps, including the notorious Auschwitz, Buchenwald, he was liberated in Dachau. In 1947, Ben arrived to the United States and settled in Los Angeles where he met and then married his wife Jean in 1950. Ben & Jean have been blessed with 2 daughters, 4 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In Los Angeles, Ben became a Realtor and had two successful Real Estate offices, Ben Lesser & Associates. He is past president of the Los Angeles Westside Beverly Hills Brokers Association. Since 1995, after retiring to Las Vegas, Ben has been devoting his time as a volunteer, speaking in schools and colleges on The Holocaust. Ben said that he has dedicated his present life to the pursuit of preserving the memory (ZACHOR) in order to prevent the world from contracting AMNESIA.

20 JAN 2023 · Breaking the world record for scaling the world's largest volcano, climbing Mount Everest and exploring the world with Karina Oliani Medical doctor, Adventurer, and TV presenter Karina Oliani is the first South American woman to climb Mount Everest from both the North and South sides.  She was accompanied by Pemba Sherpa, Chairman of Adventure Ascent during both Everest ascents. Karina Oliani also became the 1st person to get through the largest lava lake on earth. She has had an adventurous spirit from a very young age and a desire to set new personal records. At age 12 she made her first parachute jump (double) and completed her scuba diving course. And in 1999, at age 17, she was already a two-time Brazilian wakeboarder. Besides those, Karina has also practiced many other sports, among them rock climbing, motocross, canoeing, stand-up paddle, abseiling, horseback riding, surfing, snowboarding, mountaineering, hang gliding, parachuting, and Bungee jumping. In her journey to pursue adventures, she has always loved and one of the things that makes her the happiest is being able to help others. She has been of immense help in the local project to rebuild Patle School. Karina being a person with an adventurous spirit, medical expertise and a loving heart makes her well suited for the role of advisory board member.
