  • The Safra Massacre - The Day of the Long Knives in Lebanon.

    14 DEC 2023 · On July 7, 1980, a date that would go down in history as the Day of the Long Knives, soldiers of the Kataeb, led by Bashir Gemayel, had waited for Dany Chamoun, son of Camille and absolute commander of the Tigers, to leave the yacht club in Safra, the Tigers' base. They then launched an attack on the facility where the leaders of the rival militia were relaxing. In a morning of rare violence, 83 officers and soldiers of the Chamoun military force were stabbed, machine-gunned, strangled in hotel rooms, or thrown from balconies before being shot on the beach. This event settled the score between the Maronite families, forever altering the dynamics and leading the surviving Tigers to seek recruitment into the Kataeb.
