Happy Pups Podcast

  • Bella's rehab program: Reactivity, Anxiety, Territory & how I dealt with it!!

23 FEB 2018 · In this episode I discuss Bella. She's a 6-year-old Labrador with a myriad of state of mind issues. She was highly reactive both on walks and in the house. She was highly protective of toys and food. She had severe anxiety to work through. Lots of good stuff for me to work on. She also serves as a great topic and example of what I do to work dogs through these issues. I cover her training program from beginning to end and the snags that came along the way. Enjoy!!

  • Obedience Is Only Half The Battle

9 FEB 2018 · Ever wonder why dogs tend to listen to trainers more than they do their owners? Ever wonder what it is that trainers do the owners don't in order to achieve this higher level of respect and compliance? Well in this episode of the happy pups training podcast that's exactly what I go over. The importance of obedience is something that is very well known. However, what's often overlooked is the importance of overall relationship building. The ability and willingness to hold a dog accountable for its actions in order to create a sense of respect in a relationship. Disrespect will give access to trust and the dog will begin to see you as someone worth following.

  • Consistency Is Everything!!

2 AUG 2017 · There's a secret to success in dog training. The secret is that there is no secret! All progress comes in proportion with the amount of effective effort given to work toward that newly learned skill. Whether it be teaching obedience to an excitable puppy, or setting boundaries to help an aggressive dog adapt to a healthier lifestyle. Both situations require the dog to learn and adapt to what it's been taught. Both will come with their unique sets of challenges. And both are subject to the concept of repetition and habit-forming. The more you do it, the better you get, the less you have to make a conscious effort as it becomes ingrained as a habit. Long story short. You want the results, do the work!

  • The Dog Trainer's Trap

27 JUN 2017 · I share some great words of wisdom that I learned from my conversation with Sean from the good dog training. Sometimes it doesn't matter how much you do, if you care more than the owners care you'll always be fighting a losing battle.

  • Why Most Trainers Can't Rehabilitate Aggressive Dogs

15 JUN 2017 · I go in-depth with some of the reasons that I find that there are many trainers (Many of them very good!) That have little or no success when it comes to rehabilitating a dog. I believe that this is because training for obedience and working to adjust the dogs state of mind and ingrained natural behaviors are two different stories that sometimes run along similar parallels but also can be very different.

1 JUN 2017 · Training a dog to e-collar standards is in my opinion, the top tier for training and proofing a dog. However, like anything else, off-leash work comes with its own set of limitations and potential for problems. This episode offers tips on how to keep everyone safe while working off-leash.
