24 MAR 2016 · Redemption has a strong spiritual meaning, but the spiritual meaning is rooted in a more practical definition. Redemption refers to the recovery of something. However, when we look at the definition of redemption and apply it to a christian context, we see that it takes on a much more significant meaning as we ponder our own freedom from sin's enslavement (much like in the Shawshank Redemption). But at no stage of the redemptive work does God so reveal Himself to His people as to affect their free and voluntary moral action. He declares His will through revelation, but does not compel obedience. Thus, it is possible, to receive revelation without redemption, but redemption cannot be without revelation, and these go hand in hand. So avoid the temptation to engage in denial, to pretend that nothing is wrong, to wish and hope and pray that, whatever it is, it will go away and you won't have to do anything. The fact is that it probably will get worse before it gets better, and you will ultimately need to face the situation and do something about it.
