Future Freelancing

  • EP 6: The best innovators will be polyglots

25 AUG 2022 · As the freelance industry continues to get bigger, I have a hypothesis that the most renowned innovators in this gig economy space will have at least one distinguishing trait, which is this: They’ll be polyglots. • EP5: Guaranteed Freelance Work

4 AUG 2022 · One person struggles to make rent. Another is stressed about paying for groceries. And yet one more can't justify paying for an oil change. 68% of freelancers say one of their main concerns is that they have unpredictable work. And 62% say that inconsistent income is also a big concern. Freelancers are facing a big cash flow problem, and with a very conservative estimate of 81 million freelancers in the world, this means at least 48 million of them struggle with consistent work and income. I'm experimenting with building a service that guarantees freelance work by allowing them to immediately join projects — no more need to pitch. • EP 3: Using Maslow's Hierarchy to find value propositions (part 2)

21 JUL 2022 · In this episode I discuss the last two layers of Maslow's hierarchy (esteem needs and self-actualization needs), come up with some new value propositions, and explain what I think would happen to your business if you try to build value propositions across all layers of Maslow's hierarchy. • EP 2: Using Maslow’s hierarchy to find value propositions (part 1)

14 JUL 2022 · In order to transform the freelancers and clients you serve, I think Maslow’s hierarchy is a helpful framework to use when looking for new value propositions that dramatically improve users quality of life.

  • EP 1: An Increase in freelancers changing how the world does work

7 JUL 2022 · I think we're seeing society come full circle in how we work. A long time ago, people used to work out of their homes. Then the industrial revolution occurred, and people left their homes for work. Then the age of the internet again changed everything, but there's been a slow adoption of working from home. Plenty of companies have stuck to the industrial revolution model of work. Punching in, working 9-5, punching out... It took a pandemic for companies to accelerate the adoption of what people have been trying to do for decades now — work from home again. The old has become new. After Covid, we see a sizable increase in US workers choosing full-time and part-time freelancing. 8% and 4% respectively. With about 131 million workers in the US, that means more than 10 million people decided to freelance full-time. In one year. This is why freelance marketplaces need to start thinking even more critically about what novel ways they can offer value to freelancers as the world accommodates an increase of them.
