11 OCT 2022 · Christianity arrived in Finland in the late Middle Ages but witch hunts in fact began in Scandinavia during the time when they were already fading in America and middle Europe. In Sweden, Finland, and Estonia, witch hunts first spread in the coastal areas. In Finland, they began on the island of Åland. An Island is an excellent place for this type of mass hysteria to begin because it is a closed community and not that many are willing to stand up against the authority figures.
