The precise decorative function of these works, which furnished the homes of the time, was enhanced by the precious metallic lustre decoration. The large plate depicts in the centre a penitent Saint Jerome, recognizable by his classic attributes of the lion and the cross, while beating his chest with a stone. The decoration is completed by the characteristic brim divided into compartments with floral motifs and acanthus leaves.
