16 NOV 2018 · In a conversation with the Cranfield and Marston Vale Chronicle, Bedfordshire's Police and Crime Commissioner, Kathryn Holloway, talks about the lack of funding for her force. There are not enough police officers to go around, so the public should not expect an immediate response if there isn't a threat to someone's safety. "We run out of officers on our response section who deliver those 999 and 101 responses, every single day and every single night because of the life-threatening crime happening in that single same second around the county." Ms. Holloway said that Bedfordshire police is not alone in this, but that it is particularly exposed as it is in the lowest quartile for funding nationally and lowest quartile for council tax receipts. She added that Bedfordshire Police has also had to make savings of over £34 million. Ms. Holloway also discusses her role as PCC and how residents can help to improve policing.

He was elected to office in a by-election held on October 2009, following the death of previous mayor, Frank Branston. In this podcast, (one of two) the Mayor talks about the role, what he is proud of achieving and how his experience as a councillor has helped with the day to day work. Although this didn't prepare him for a question on his first day as mayor!

The Local Plan is also discussed. This is the plan to build 40,000 new homes in the Central Bedfordshire area. As you'd expect, those living in the areas chosen for 1,000s of new homes are happy. James explains why the plan is needed.

My guest is Stephanie Berkeley. She is a Farm Safety Campaign Specialist. During the interview Stephanie highlights the constant dangers farmers and their families endure daily at their workplace and home.
