15 JUN 2025 · Coastal Waters Forecast Reveals Mild Marine Conditions for South Florida
The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a comprehensive marine forecast for South Florida's coastal waters, highlighting a relatively calm week ahead with some potential weather variations.
From Jupiter Inlet to Ocean Reef and extending out to 60 nautical miles, marine conditions are expected to remain fairly benign through early next week. Sailors and boaters can anticipate gentle to moderate southeasterly winds persisting across the region. However, mariners should remain alert for scattered showers and thunderstorms that may develop daily and overnight, potentially creating locally hazardous wind and sea conditions.
The Gulf Stream's current position has been precisely mapped, with its western wall located just offshore from key coastal points. Specifically, the stream runs approximately one nautical mile north-northeast of Fowey Rocks, seven miles east of Port Everglades, ten miles east-southeast of Lake Worth, and eleven miles northeast of Jupiter Inlet.
Wave conditions are expected to be consistently modest, with seas around two feet and wave periods ranging between three to five seconds. Intracoastal waters will experience light to moderate chop, and wind speeds will generally range between five to fifteen knots, predominantly from the southeast.
Lake Okeechobee and Biscayne Bay will see similar patterns, with light winds and occasional shower and thunderstorm chances. Boaters should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions, particularly in the afternoon when thunderstorm development is most likely.
While no significant Gulf Stream hazards are anticipated, marine enthusiasts are advised to monitor local weather updates and be prepared for potential short-duration weather shifts characteristic of Florida's summer marine environment.
