    16 NOV 2021 · Western Illinois University's Psychology Department is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the WIU Hotline call center. Hotline was founded at WIU in 1971, in response to the need for support services for a climbing suicide rate in McDonough County. It has evolved over the years to a nightly support line for students and community members of the western Illinois region and provides telephone and text support, crisis intervention, referrals, suicide prevention and general advocacy. WIU's Hotline is open for calls every day residence halls are open, from 7 p.m.-1 a.m.

  • Reimagining and Revising the Reading Room Series in Response To COVID

    24 JUN 2020 · The Reading Room Series, a monthly celebration of the literary arts in Western Illinois University's Department of English featuring faculty, graduate and undergraduate students was placed on hold in the wake of COVID-19. Here are some of the voices of our incredible students reading original fiction and poetry written in response to our contemporary and changing world. In 2020-2021, the Reading Room Series will continue to change in response to the virus, but a way forward will be found to continue elevating and making room for the stories our campus community has to share.
