Dr. Barry Gordon, M.D. runs the Compassionate Cannabis Clinic in Venice, Florida. Dr. Barry, as he is affectionately known, is at the forefront of the medical cannabis movement. A 1981 graduate of the Ohio State University College of Medicine and a founding fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, Gordon said it wasn’t until decades into his medical career that he even began hearing the words “endocannabinoid system.” “It was my career in emergency medicine that drove me to find an alternative for my patients and research cannabis more,” Dr. Barry explained. “I like to think of my background as a bit of a social scientist. I’ve seen the dangers of alcohol and tobacco. I like to tell my patients that you can’t even compare the intoxication effects of alcohol to cannabis.”

19 MAR 2018 · Over this last year, BDS Analytics tracked how much the Cannabis Industry has been contributing the United States economy. The Cannabis Industry made 9 billion dollars in 2017 alone. Their predictions for 2018 rest around $11 billion and up to $21 billion in 2021, but it is important to note this study took place before California legalized recreational marijuana and those numbers could be significantly lower than the actual outcome. We like to reiterate that the Cannabis Industry is not all about making money, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t brought in a significant amount of capital over the past few years. This industry created over 100,000 jobs in 2017, and that number could reach over a quarter million by 2021. Many states allocate a significant portion of taxes earned through marijuana sales to go to public schools, opiate, and drug recovery programs, and drug education programs. States like Colorado now have some of the best schools and some of the lowest opiate drug overdoses in the nation. The Cannabis Industry is not only helping the economy but creating healthier and safer communities in legalized states.

28 FEB 2018 · We start off our show talking with Joy Beckerman over the phone. Joy has been part of the hemp movement for a quarter of a century and considers herself a grassroots activist. She specializes in consulting on everything Cannabis and hemp related. She was elected to the National Board of Directors for NORML, which she considers one of the greatest honors of her life after supporting the organization for over 27 years. She also sits as president of the Hemp Industries Association. She has spent years educating lawmakers and the public on industrial hemp policies. She dives right into the thick of it by explaining what is in the “Farm Bill.” As a result of Section 7606 Agricultural Act of 2014 (“Farm Bill”), we had a “seismic shift in Cannabis policy.” This bill defined two things; first, it defined industrialized hemp for the first time in U.S. history as any part of the plant, Cannabis Sativa L, that is used for industrial purposes with no more than .3% of THC on a dry weight basis. This definition ultimately distinguished hemp from marijuana. It also defined a term called Agricultural Pilot Program as the study of growth, cultivation, or marketing of industrial hemp. This is an amendment which says, institutions of higher learning and State Departments of Agriculture can now come up with rules for these agricultural pilot programs, in the states that allow the cultivation of hemp. The hemp industry is creating a market under this research umbrella, which Joy Beckerman states is a very responsible way to reintroduce hemp into the marketplace. Joy is adamant that research is the best way forward in the hemp industry, because with it comes a multitude of federal protections that come with state laws in compliance with this research bill. Two years after this bill was enacted the DEA, USDA, and the FDA came together to issue a joint statement of principles which completely butchered the legislative intent by declaring unlawful restrictions on the hemp plant. So the Hemp Industry Associations came together with lawmakers to write letters to the agencies demanding clarification on this. The DEA was protesting and pushing back on all the progress the hemp industry had made over the last couple of years. Recently, the Hemp Industry Association took the DEA to court over this in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

19 FEB 2018 · This week we had a very special guest Danny Stern. He is a Cannabis activist that represents the patient community and is also a practicing attorney. Danny has muscular dystrophy and is confined to a wheelchair. He is adamant that marijuana is not a harmful drug, but a medicine that could be used to treat pain or other symptoms in patients. Danny Stern is a stigma breaker in his everyday life. He knows from personal experience that is extremely hard to get a medical marijuana card in the state of Florida. Danny believes there is a good chance there are many people here who are suffering and could use marijuana to treat their pain but don’t meet the strict requirements for the state. He remains optimistic about the future of marijuana legalization, even though right now it seems like an uphill battle. We had the opportunity to hear Danny’s personal story of dealing with muscular dystrophy and some of the struggles he has to deal with on a daily basis. He uses Cannabis to help manage his pain like soreness or muscle cramps. Cannabis has shown associations to relaxing muscle tension during contractions. He has seen an increase in patients that now use Cannabis to help treat their symptoms and discomfort. The most important part of legalizing Cannabis is education. A lot of the time patients have a hard time finding the right drugs that work, and only try Cannabis as a last resort. Doctors need the education so their patients can’t use marijuana as a first resort and not forced to continue trying drug after drug scared they might not find peace in their treatment. Danny has been fortunate enough to be surrounded by loving friends and family that have helped him get to where he is today, and he wants to pay it forward by fighting for patients to get access to Cannabis and the relief they

23 JAN 2018 · Why is Florida allowing another country to profit in the booming CannaBusiness? This is an industry that is creating jobs, and putting money into the hands of hard-working Americans, but it seems like our home state of Florida doesn’t want to participate in this gold rush. Canada has the advantage over the US because it is federally legal north of the wall, giving them the upper hand when it comes to getting the funds to invest in the budding marijuana industry. Florida needs to figure out a better system to ensure that the companies getting the licenses are not going to just sit on it and sell the license to a foreign country for a profit. 9 JAN 2018 · This week, Cannabis Life Radio confronts the much-discussed Jeff Sessions about his recent speech bashing legal marijuana practices in America. Recently, Sessions rescinded the Cole memorandum, a federal policy, put in place by the Obama administration which regulates the use of legal marijuana amongst adults. This announcement seems to be coming at an inconvenient time since big states like California and Massachusetts are breaking milestones by mainstreaming marijuana for recreational use. Arby argues that the more people are exposed to the plant as medicine, the less stigma will be attached to it. “This is not JUST something consumed to get high, a lot of people actually need cannabis to live normal and fully functional lives,” Arby emphasized.
