... can we talk? with Dinchamion

  • 005: ... about social media, respecting your audience, and building your brand

23 SEP 2017 · The blog post: http://bit.ly/2hq567x I think there’s both a practical and a moral value in casting a very wide net on social media. It’s practical, because… well, I don’t need to explain that one, do I? 🙂 But it’s also a moral value: because it carries a certain level of respect toward your audience that you’re willing to meet them where they are. • 004: Can we talk about overcoming failure?

22 SEP 2017 · Today marks the 30th day of my daily blogging endeavor - I've blogged every day for a month now. In the latest (http://bit.ly/2hmKz7z) I talk about how I've changed in the last 30 days. For one thing, I started to like the fall. And while today wasn't good, in fact it was pretty bad, I still managed to write the blog post and record this episode. The two things I've set out to do no matter what. If that's not a testament to changing, and to how comforting it can be to have one thing that you do no matter what happens, I don't know what is. Do I want to do more? Absolutely. But accepting failure and moving on is important. Before, I would've been haunted by not accomplishing what I set out to do for days. Now, I know I did what I did, and what I didn't I will. Failure is just a temporary thing. You accept it, learn from it, move on.

  • 003: A farewell to Meshfire

21 SEP 2017 · Blog post: http://bit.ly/2hlQPJ4 When I heard the news that Meshfire, my favorite Twitter community management platform and love affair for three years is going to shut down, I sat in disbelief. It wasn't that long ago, a mere three years, that I wrote the blog post (with a sonnet!) that has opened doors to me, that put me on the map in a lot of ways professionally, that connected me with people I'm privileged to call my friends even though we've never met, and solidified my passion for writing and creating online content. All that now comes to an end. And while I'm sad, I feel more like the boys at the end of Dead Poets Society: saddened but empowered through a mentor; not Mr Keating but Meshfire's Ember. I'll carry the Firestarter's torch for as long as I live I believe. And to say thank you and farewell, I wrote a haiku - a poem to bookend this wonderful, special relationship. ---- Find me on social media, including Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook: @dinchamion

    002: ... in which I get Grumpy.

20 SEP 2017 · About trolls, simplistic characters, and the state of our society — all at once! I still ramble a lot, working on that and appreciate your patience! But I think this time your patience is justified - this is a great topic that I loved writing about (see link below) and loved talking about. 25 minutes of love. And rant. :-) In a nutshell, I'd describe my position as examining the way our society is radicalizing, and how that affects communications (on the internet in particular) and what we expect from fiction to balance it.
