The shape and decoration of the vase are in Islamic taste, the copper detail represents a stratagem to protect the fragility of the neck, according to a widespread practice in the Middle East, where Chinese porcelain had already been imported since the 8th century, stylistically influencing local manufactures and stimulating innovation in production techniques. On the other hand, Chinese potters used the precious cobalt powder from Persia to decorate the renowned “blue and white” porcelain, also reproducing decorative motifs typical of the Islamic world.
