Beware the Day with Ryan O. Adams

  • Ep.13 - The Struggle for Equality Part V - Employment Challenges During the Reagan Administration

12 APR 2024 · In today's episode of Beware The Day with Ryan O. Adams, we delve into the fifth installment of our series, "The Struggle for Equality," focusing on the employment challenges faced during the Reagan Administration. As Reagan took office, his policies initiated a significant shift in domestic spending, particularly impacting affordable housing. This drastic reduction in funding had profound consequences, with subsidies plummeting from $26 billion to a mere $2 billion. Federally financed production of subsidized housing saw a staggering decline of over 82%. In our Black History Spotlight, we examine Eunice Carter, born into a family of prominent educators and activists in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1899. The family's relocation to Brooklyn, New York, following the Atlanta Race Riot of 1906 laid the groundwork for Eunice's remarkable journey. Join us as we explore her legacy and the enduring impact of her contributions.

  • Ep.12 - The Struggle for Equality Part IV - Employment Challenges During the Reagan Administration

5 APR 2024 · The Struggle for Equality Part IV (Employment Challenges During the Reagan Administration) In this episode of #BewareTheDay with Ryan O. Adams, today's lesson delves into the tumultuous landscape of employment equality during the Reagan Administration. Affirmative Action, once a beacon of hope for marginalized communities, began to crumble under political pressure, leaving many to face unprecedented challenges. As we navigate the legal battlegrounds of the time, we uncover pivotal Supreme Court rulings that reshaped the course of affirmative Action. In Memphis, a landmark case highlighted the clash between seniority rights and racial equality, setting a precedent that reverberated nationwide. The burden of proof shifted, placing a heavier onus on minority workers seeking justice against discriminatory practices. In our Black History Spotlight, we spotlight the Sugar Land 95, a group of individuals whose stories lie buried beneath the sugar cane fields of Texas. Sugar Land, once a hub of the convict leasing system, reveals a dark chapter in American history where exploitation and injustice thrived under the guise of economic prosperity. Join us as we unpack the complexities of employment challenges and reflect on the enduring struggle for equality in the face of adversity.
