Around the Diocese Podcast Show

  • Episode 15: Around the Diocese

11 DEC 2020 · In the Diocese of Joliet, the first chapter of the CGA was established at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Darien during the fall of 2019. Members meet monthly — during the pandemic, it’s mostly been via Zoom. The group sponsors an annual Grandparent’s Mass, held on or near July 26, the feast day of Saint Joachim and Saint Anne, the Blessed Mother’s parents and, thus, Jesus’ grandparents. They also go on an annual pilgrimage with member families. In today's episode, Colleen Lowery, a member of the group talks about the importance of passing on the faith to her grandkids. 16 OCT 2020 · In the first segment, Bishop Ron Hicks shares about a 2020 Election Novena he is going to be leading starting on Oct. 26. In the second segment, Joan Dillon, a Council of Catholic Women member, shares more about Box of Joy, an annual Christmas gift ministry organized by local Catholic schools, parishes and groups across the United States and facilitated by Cross Catholic Outreach. The Joliet Diocesan Council of Catholic Women have been coordinating the Box of Joy outreach for four years now. The outreach delivers small boxes, full of stuff children would love as gifts, to children in need in the Caribbean, Africa, Asia or Latin America who may otherwise receive very little at Christmas. Just imagine the joy on a child’s face upon receiving a box. The Councils of Catholic Women in the diocese collect small items, such as crayons, coloring books, T-shirts, or small toys – anything that will fit in a shoe box. It is not too late to donate. The deadline to contribute is Nov. 10, 2020. For more gift suggestions and info, go online to www.crosscatholic.org/BoxofJoy.
