4 JUN 2024 · Janequeo was born around 1587, the exact date is unknown. She was a lonco, a leader and she’s a hero to the Mapuche-Pehuenche people. She was the wife of Huepotaen, who was a lonco, an indigenous leader. When he was tortured and killed by the Spanish governor, Alonso de Sotomayor, she became the lonco and led a long battle against the Spanish.Â
