Founded during World War II, the United Service Organizations may not be a familiar name for you but I bet if I shorten it to the USO, that helps, right? Aiming to be a GI's "home away from home", the organization is governmentally chartered but not a part of the government. Instead, the charity relies on donations and volunteers to support the service men and women stationed away from their families.
