Around the middle of the eighteenth century many manufactures in northern Italy, inspired by the refined porcelain, tried to widen the range of colours to apply the precious tones of gold and purple red to maiolica. This gave rise to the new technique known as “small fire” or “third fire”, with the object subjected to a final finishing and a third firing, more moderate than the previous ones. The Finck factory was among the protagonists of this splendid season. The different decorative motifs of the Bolognese factory are all united by an artistic result of great effect, as in the ornamental potiche vase that stands out for the high naturalistic quality of the design and the refined chromatic realism.
