Parts of Iowa were blown into ruin by a storm that created sustained winds of up to 100mph. This is a special episode, recorded by telephone while Adrianne and many fellow Iowans were without power and other critical needs.
Two nurses join Adrianne by telephone from a literal disaster area - Jasmine and Amy spend some time sharing their experiences as residents of Cedar Rapids. They describe what life has been like, what they're seeing in their neighborhoods, how their communities are responding, and how this has affect their work lives at their hospitals.

At the time of this episode's release, there are Cedar Rapids families still in crisis. Their homes have been literally destroyed. They're living in tents, using generators to keep food and medications cold, and to have lights and devices charged. Some residents are taking it upon themselves to feed their communities and remove pieces of large trees from homes and roadways, as crews race to safely repair downed lines all over the large city. It will be some time before Iowa is back to normal, especially with millions of acres of destroyed crops and extensive damages to businesses and infrastructure.

Please listen as RNs Jasmine and Amy recount the storm and the days that follow. Adrianne will wrap this all up with a list of suggestions of what you can do to help this ongoing recovery (federal aid as of yet is not extended to homeowners or farmers and other aid is slow to be dispersed).

Please check out the organizations/links below if you'd like to offer your help with a donation. Psst, listen to the end of the episode for a special related offer from Adrianne. ;)

Thanks in advance for your understanding as Nursing Uncensored Headquarters gets back on track. Lots of editing and interviewing time was lost to sitting in the dark with no air conditioning.
