Today Dan joins Stephanie with Dr. Mike McNulty, a Gottman-trained therapist who also specializes in NeuroDiverse couples.

We talk today about The Sound Relationship House and "Why Marriages Succeed or Fail" based on Gottman's evidence-based research.

There are very few Christian counselors, coaches, and pastors who are trained in ND marriage. Our research shows Christians want to work with another Christian marriage helper, but sadly many Christian professionals still do not take ND relationships seriously and stick to Sunday School advice (pray more, submit more, have more sex) or say dismissive things like "relationship problems are relationship problems" and dismiss the need for additional training.
Therefore, if you cannot find a Christian therapist, find someone who will respect your faith, has Gottman training, and is ND trained.

Topics today include:
  • Building The Sound Relationship House
  • The 4 horsemen and their antidotes
  • We answer a listener's question about stonewalling concerning intentional vs. unintentional.

About Dr. McNulty
Mike McNulty, Ph.D., is a teacher, trainer, and psychotherapist who specializes in working with neurodiverse couples. He is the founder and owner of The Chicago Relationship Center and provides intensive couples therapy through Couples Therapy Inc. He was one of the first five advanced clinical trainers appointed by The Gottman Institute to provide workshops for couples and professionals at all levels of Gottman training. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Institute for
Clinical Social Work in Chicago in 2000. An extensive summary of his dissertation research, entitled “Dyslexia and the Life Course,” was published in the Journal of Learning Disabilities in July of 2003, and has been cited more than 500 times in peer-reviewed publications. He went
on to present his work with neurodiverse couples in 2007 at The Annual Gottman Conference. More recently, Dr. McNulty led webinars for The Gottman Institute for professionals and for
consumers on neurodiverse couples. He has also interviewed for several podcasts on this topic
and others. He regularly leads “The Art & Science of Love: A Weekend Workshop for Couples” in Chicago and Oakland.
