You mentioned that parents shouldn't send their children to summer camps. I can understand not sending them to a secular camp but what about our camp that was founded with the blessing of Met. Demetrius? We only have one that I know of...St. Xenia's.

In my opinion, youth camps were created to fill a void left when families were left shattered by war. From the YMCA, a humanist anti-Church organization, to other groups, like the Gunnery camp of 1860's, which is viewed by some as the first "summer camp" for youth in America, summer camps have provided yet another surrogate opportunity for parents. I am for the Orthodox family. I have a problem with the entire sociology of surrogacy that has overtaken our society. One priest who began one of our "Orthodox" camps said, "We created the camp to do what the parents and the priest could not." Where did he get the idea that parents and priests cant provide something that camps can? I think he was wrong.
