Thomas Spota is a former American attorney who served as the Suffolk County District Attorney in New York from 2002 until his resignation in 2017. He was known for his long tenure as a prosecutor on Long Island, where he held a powerful position overseeing criminal cases in Suffolk County.Spota's career took a dramatic turn in 2017 when he was indicted on federal charges of conspiracy and obstruction of justice.
These charges were related to allegations that he had engaged in a cover-up of police misconduct and civil rights violations. Spota was accused of protecting a former police chief who had assaulted a suspect, and of using his position to obstruct a federal investigation into the incident.In November 2017, Thomas Spota resigned as Suffolk County District Attorney and pleaded not guilty to the federal charges. His case went to trial in 2019, and in December of that year, he was found guilty of conspiracy and obstruction of justice.
Christoper McPartland, the former top anti corruption prosecutor in Suffolk county was also tangled up in the mess and found himself in prison as well.
Both men had appealed their sentences and both men have now had their appeals denied.
