The Horse Show takes on a new look and feel this week as Chris is joined by an old friend Jane Wallace, making her podcasting debut as a co-host. Their topic of discussion is over-tight nose-bands as Jane shares her lifetime’s experience from showing ponies to international eventing, from teaching to training. She explains why taking the time for building the foundation to a house is the perfect metaphor for understanding why the principles of a broad training base are critical. Why there are times when some horses need a tight nose-band but how important it is to no over-tighten.  Jane talks about the consequences of creating this vicious circle, which is an anathema to correct training.  Some sound advice here and some reasons why competition stewards are not intercepting when they see nose-bands that are clearly too tight.  And if you stay to the end you’ll hear them have some fun as they recall some early lessons in basic equitation… and that means going back to their pony days!
