On this week’s show Chris is joined by Irish equestrian journalist Louise Parkes to review current form of some of the leading riders in dressage, eventing and show jumping now that the spring season is underway.  This past weekend Britain’s Piggy French showed her consistency by clinching her first Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials title. This is also Piggy’s first CCI5* win having competed in 324 internationals including 24 at this level. After jumpiing a clear show jumping round in second place it was a nail biting finale when the overnight leader had one rail down which he could afford but not the time faults. Piggy also finished fourth at the Land Rover Kentucky Three Day event the previous week. We will hear from Piggy what it feels like to be the Badminton Champion.  And we also have a woman topping the FEI Eventing Rankings too for the first time since 2011 with the World Champion Ros Canter taking over the top spot. Ros sat out the spring events as she awaits her first child, which no doubt she has scheduled to get her back in the tack in time for the European Championships, which take place in Luhmuehlen later this summer.   Louise shares news of Irish dressage and the prospects of a team for the European Championships in Rotterdam in August. We also hear about the amazing comeback of Mexican show jumper Lorenza O’Farrill who at 49 rode a winning round fro the Mexican’s to clinch the Nations Cup in Coapexpan this weekend. Lorenza suffered a life-altering accident when she was kicked in the back and need major back and hip surgery to walk again. What a story.
