In peripheral nervous system class they showed us black and white films of the old pain studies of the 1940s and 50s. You would see this big electronics tower with leads connected to this volunteer house wife. Then would walk in this short guy with the white coat, thick rimmed glasses, clip board and a thick German accent. He would play with the dials, the housewife would start to wince and you would hear that thick accent ask "So, how does that feel." The class would laugh because it is a common seen, "Princess Bride" like. Then your personal morals would kick in because you realize this is not a movie, the shocks were real.
