"Rev. S.A. "Hoss" McElhaney June 14, 2011 Rev. S.A. "Hoss" McElhaney, 86, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Life Care Center of Athens. He preached the old time Gospel over the radio for more than 50 years, served as pastor of many churches in Tennessee, and preached revivals in many other states throughout his lifetime. He was preceded in death by his one and only wife, Sarah Sitzlar McElhaney, some 23 years earlier; his parents, Robert "Bob" and Bessie Leffew McElhaney; one daughter, Joyce Ann McElhaney; one brother, Robert "Buck" McElhaney; and three sisters, Mildred Hughes, Flora Sitzlar and Bonnie Harrison. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Pastor John and Margaret McElhaney, Samuel and Gloria McElhaney and Duggan and Darlene McElhaney; one daughter, Brenda Brown; six grandchildren, Melissa Stinnett, Gary McElhaney, Justin McElhaney, the Rev. Jonathon Brown, Christy Cagle and Tonya Seargant; great-grandchildren, Jon, Monica, Amber and Holly McElhaney, Isaac, Isaiah, Elias and Gabriel Stinnett, Courtney and Christian Cagle, Reaon Myrick and Malaci Kenslow; three great-great-grandchildren; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Kenneth McElhaney, Boyd McElhaney and Lester and Tom McElhaney; and two sisters, Lennie West and her husband, Eugene, and Betty West and her husband, Robert. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Pastor John McElhaney and Dallas Nance officiating. Burial will follow in Hornsby Hollow Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bowers Funeral Home. Go to www.bowersfh.com to sign the guest book and offer your condolences. Bowers Funeral Home of Decatur is in charge of arrangements." The proceeding obituary was from The Daily Post-Athenian. This particular broadcast is his Sunday Night broadcast from August 26, 2001, from the old WDEH FM, (Now WLOD FM,) of Sweetwater, TN. His night-time broadcasts were done live from the studios of the station, from 10:00 P.M, to 11:00 P.M. He also had a Sunday Afternoon broadcast on WDEH AM, Sweetwater, TN, that I believe was on from 3:30 to 4:00 P.M., also live from the station. "Hoss" was an inimitable individual, who will be missed by we who loved him & what he preached.
