Get out of the water, Slackers!
Starting with 1975’s Jaws, summer movie releases have become an annual competition between movie studios to see who takes the honor of THE HIT of the summer. Guys like Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are the kings of the big budget blockbuster, with a whopping 9 movies designated as summer blockbusters between 1975 and 1999 - basically a third of all the top hits had been made by those two directors.
But let’s not forget Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit), Tim Burton (Batman & Batman Returns), and Tony Scott (Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop II).
I saw a good chunk of these flicks in the movie theater. Sadly, I don’t get to the movies anywhere near as often as I would like, but this summer has a number of great entries that I have to see.
Who will reign supreme in the Summer of 2023? Across the Spider-verse? The Flash? Indiana Jones? Mission Impossible? What are your picks? And what are your favorites from childhood?
