I think they are just trying to hold onto control with various variant excuses until those who are "in rehearsal" decide it's "showtime" and there's a new bloody good excuse for control. (yes that's in code)

Yes, it's a cult. The powers that shouldn't be keep getting up there and contradicting themselves so blatently I want to hold up a cheesecloth and say, "Here is a picture of your logic." And yet somehow people are like, oh, yes, be afraid, too many people have the sniffles, we're all going to die, it's literally a cold this time but it's going to KILL EVERYONE>

Interesting. I'm not welcome at the movies anymore, not that I ever would have voluntarily gone. I was in my 20s when someone finally got me into a movie theater the first time, and several times after to be a good friend, but I finally just said no, I don't want to go because I don't like it.
