On July 14, 2020, Reta Mays pleaded guilty to seven counts of second-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. Reta had been a nursing assistant at the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Medical Center, in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Reta's acts of betrayal not only shocked the nation but also exposed critical vulnerabilities within the Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare system.
